Adeptol Updates Document Viewer Enterprise Edition

Adeptol released its Document Viewer Enterprise Edition Version 4.4 with a buffering and rendering technology to load documents of size up to 0.5 GB in one second. This new version of Enterprise Viewer introduces features for developers and business users as well as advanced document search capabilities, thumbnails support, watermarking, and page rotation. The Enterprise Viewer uses a built-in optimization technology to get pages directly from the server as they are being rendered. What this means is, users can start reading page one of document immediately and continue to do operations such as search, text selection, scrolling between pages, while rest of the document loads. The viewer estimates the network connection speed, document size, server load among other factors such as browser, client machine memory and is designed to optimize the load time appropriately. Users can view more than 300 document types without the need to download plug-ins or ActiveX components. The new Document Viewer Enterprise Edition is available immediately for existing and new customers.

Drupal Gardens Launches in Private Beta

Acquia has launched Drupal Gardens into private beta today, e-mailing out invites to the intial batch of people who signed up to be beta testers. Drupal Gardens is a hosted version of Drupal which is remotely installed, hosted and upgraded. It is designed to have an interface similar to sites such as or Ning. Equipped with multi-user blogging, commenting, forums, custom content types, and advanced user management, Drupal Gardens aims to be a tool for organizations that want to build social sites. While currently on a private beta you can sign up to request an invite, and Acquia expects to transition to a public beta by spring 2010. Drupal Gardens will be available for free to the public throughout all of 2010.

Mark Logic Launches Cloud Services

Mark Logic Corporation announced MarkLogic Cloud Services, a new line of services that will make Mark Logic software available on Amazon Web Services. The first such offering in this line is MarkLogic Server for EC2, which enables customers to use MarkLogic on a pay-by-the-hour basis on Amazon EC2, the popular elastic computing cloud platform. MarkLogic Server for EC2 consists of an Amazon Machine Image (AMI) with MarkLogic Server pre-installed. For faster and easier deployment, users can subscribe to the MarkLogic Server AMI directly from Amazon Web Services. This service also allows users to pay for only the resources they need. MarkLogic Server is also now certified on two cloud infrastructures. The first is Amazon EC2, where customers can deploy MarkLogic Server on an infrastructure offered by Amazon Web Services. The second is the VMware virtualization platform, which enables customers to implement clouds on self-managed hardware.

Alfresco and RightScale Partner

Alfresco Software, Inc. and RightScale, Inc. announced the availability of a joint solution aimed at speeding the deployment time and automating the scaling of Alfresco software in the cloud. Utilizing RightScale’s software-as-a-service (SAAS) cloud management platform. RightScale’s cloud management platform is aimed at enabling organizations to deploy Alfresco open source ECM quickly and create a fully-configured, fault-tolerant and load-balanced Alfresco cluster using RightScale ServerTemplates.,

SpringCM Updates Cloud-Based Content Management

SpringCM announced the newest version of its SaaS content management system SpringCM (5.4), which has new features and upgrades designed to make SpringCM more powerful and easier to use. A new feature of Version 5.4 is the ability to automatically set the retention period on a record based on a date field inside a document (e.g. hire date, contract expiration date, etc.). This was designed to be helpful for ongoing document-driven processes as well as for importing existing documents into the system through back-file conversion. Users should now be able to automatically classify a document as a record from within a SpringCM Advanced Workflow or a document rule, enabling business logic to drive records definition. SpringCM’s reporting has been enhanced to provide more standard reports and tries to make it easier to design custom reports. Custom dashboards introduced in Version 5.3 have been expanded with more dashboard layout options, tabbed dashboards and dashboards that are customizable to the user role in any SpringCM-based application. Other enhancements in SpringCM version 5.4 extend the view and markup functionality. All SpringCM functionality is delivered as a Web-based service for a monthly fee, and companies can deploy multiple applications on one technology infrastructure. Business processes like invoice processing, contract management, new employee on-boarding, and compliance certification can be captured in a SpringCM template and then deployed to multiple operating groups.
