AWS joins MACH Alliance

MACH Alliance, a group of independent tech companies dedicated to advocating for open, best-of-breed technology ecosystems, announced today that Amazon Web Services (AWS) has joined as an Enabler member.

MACH Alliance announced in December its new Enabler membership category, which was created for companies that are utilized by MACH organizations to deliver a service or technology but they themselves do not offer a direct MACH solution. They are, therefore, enabling a MACH provider but don’t offer a direct MACH solution. A MACH architecture, which stands for Microservices, API-first, Cloud native and Headless (MACH), gives companies a deeper level of agility, allowing them to deliver new features to their customers at speed. This architecture has spread from e-commerce to store systems and is now changing the way enterprise software is developed and utilized across virtually every industry, not just commerce.

MACH Alliance announces MongoDB and Netlify as members

MACH Alliance announced a new category of “Enabler” membership and MongoDB and Netifly as the first two members. The new category applies to organizations that are heavily utilized by MACH organizations to deliver a MACH service or technology. They are, therefore, enabling a MACH provider but don’t offer a direct MACH solution. As such, they aren’t suited for an Alliance membership in the Vendor or System Integrator categories. While a Vendor member produces an application that enterprises can buy, an Enabler member delivers a service or technology vendors can use as part of a MACH integration.

There are two types of Enabler groups:

  • Technology Enablers are Independent Software Vendors (ISVs) that MACH vendors utilize to deliver their service. They are enabling MACH ISVs and aiding the promotion of the MACH architecture.
  • Service Enablers are service organizations that are stakeholders in MACH projects (like a specialized design agency could be) but may not have a direct involvement in implementing a MACH solution.

All Enablers are aligned to the non-functional areas of a MACH architecture. This includes, but is not limited to monitoring, data storage, cluster or container management, tracing, service meshing, API Gateways and orchestration.

Neeva and NewsGuard team up for independent assessments of news sources in search

Neeva, an ads-free, private subscription search engine, announced that it now provides its users free access to NewsGuard’s trustworthy explanatory Nutrition Labels for news sources. With this partnership, Neeva’s search engine will deliver credible and transparent news assessments in search results. Neeva users now have instant access to NewsGuard’s labels alongside search results from news and information sources. NewsGuard analysts use nine apolitical criteria of journalistic practice to assess each website, and Neeva displays these Nutrition labels to its customers so that they can determine which news sources they want to engage with.

There is no censorship of source; instead, Neeva consumers will have access to information about the sources in their search results so that they can decide which sources are generally trustworthy and which ones are not. Research shows that rating credibility at the source level is a highly effective way to help consumers avoid relying on false content and increase their trust in credible and transparent sources.

Neeva and NewsGuard are both designed to support journalism and other content creation. Neeva will share at least 20% of topline revenue with content creator partners when their content is used to directly answer a Neeva customer’s query.

AtScale expands semantic layer solution for Microsoft Excel

AtScale, a provider of semantic layer solutions for modern business intelligence and data science teams, announced deeper integration with Microsoft Excel’s advanced analytic functions. AtScale makes it possible to connect Excel workbooks to live cloud data platforms, including Snowflake, AWS, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud, and Databricks. Excel users can work with data without extracting or moving data. Leveraging native MDX (Multi-Dimensional Expression) integration, the AtScale semantic layer is accessible with Excel PivotTables, Slicers, and Cell Definitions. New support includes the ability to work with cell-level CUBE functions for embedding dimensional queries directly in cell formulas. Capabilities include:

  • Native Connection – AtScale’s MDX-based connector lets Excel users access models and data through a semantic layer, with no additional drivers or client-side software. AtScale shields data consumers from the raw data structures and cloud access.
  • Performant Access to Live Cloud Data – Data requests through AtScale’s semantic layer are directed in real time to underlying cloud data platforms, with no need for extracts or pre-processing of data.
  • Analytics Governance and Security – Supports Excel’s single sign-on with Active Directory / LDAP integration.
  • Automatic Data Refresh – Supports Excel’s automatic data refresh to avoid stale data and the need to manually copy and paste raw data.
