Fivetran adds support for Microsoft’s Intelligent Data Platform

Fivetran announced an extended partnership and new product capabilities with Microsoft Azure to help joint customers accelerate their data-driven digital transformations. The partnership between Fivetran and Microsoft Azure includes support for the Microsoft Intelligent Data Platform, in addition to integrations with Azure Synapse and Azure Data Lake Storage (ADLS) products, to help deliver a more seamless solution for automated data movement in the enterprise.

The Microsoft Intelligent Data Platform is a set of comprehensive, integrated Azure data and analytics services that help reduce friction in data flows across enterprise data. Fivetran supports the Intelligent Data Platform by integrating with Azure Synapse and providing reliable, high-quality data movement across the ecosystem. As a result, Fivetran and Microsoft joint customers can accelerate value creation from their data assets. Fivetran plans to add an integration supporting data replication with its high-volume agent (HVA) connectors to ADLS Gen2 as a destination.

The integration enables Microsoft customers to take advantage of the scale, automation and performance of a modern data stack with Fivetran and Microsoft Azure. With data consolidation and transformation workloads occurring in the Azure cloud, Fivetran customers will benefit from more comprehensive analytics and insights using additional Azure data services.

Fivetran introduces Metadata API

Fivetran announced the availability of Fivetran’s Metadata API to enable the tracking of data “in-flight” from source to destination as it moves through Fivetran-managed pipelines. With this additional visibility, customers can integrate with governance and observability tools to give data teams more control over who has access to what data. Enabling automated data governance, the Fivetran Metadata API also provides data stewards, security teams and data engineering teams the needed visibility to answer where the data came from, who accessed it, and what changes have occurred in the pipeline. With the Fivetran Metadata API:

  • Data analysts are provided with a deep understanding of where data is coming from and are able to run impact analyses on it.
  • Data stewards know end users have access to data that has been handled securely and is compliant with governance requirements.
  • Security and legal teams can complete security audits and ensure the data moved is in compliance with organizational policies.
  • Data architects and engineers will soon be able to understand upstream schema changes and ensure downstream processes are updated.

Fivetran launched better metadata management with four data catalog vendors: Atlan, data.world, Alation and Collibra.

LinkrUI adds DAM syncing for Microsoft Office

Santa Cruz Software, provider of software for cross media content publishing, announced a new version of their DAM connector LinkrUI will now enable Digital Asset Manager (DAM) syncing for three Microsoft Office applications. Currently available only via DAM reselling partners, Microsoft Office functionality with LinkrUI is now compatible for applications Microsoft Word, Microsoft Powerpoint and Microsoft Excel.

LinkrUI enables direct searching, opening, placing and synchronizing of digital assets stored in a DAM system or other storage services, such as Box and Dropbox. The new version of LinkrUI automatically synchronizes assets between Microsoft Office applications and the DAM or storage service to ensure that everyone in an organization can find and work on the latest version.

LinkrUI started as an extension to Adobe applications, providing an in-app panel link between creative applications and the DAM or cloud storage service. The premium version of LinkrUI adds compatibility for Adobe Premiere and Adobe After Effects and includes additional features like live filtering and Smart-Linkr, which finds and fixes broken asset links automatically. Microsoft Office compatibility is only available in the premium version. LinkrUI for Microsoft Office is currently only available from resellers. A retail version will be announced at a later date.

Algolia acquires Search.io

Algolia, an API-First Search & Discovery Platform, announced the acquisition of Search.io, whose flagship product is Neuralsearch – a vector search engine that uses hashing technology on top of vectors to provide price performance at scale. Algolia will combine its keyword search and Search.io’s Neuralsearch into a single API-First Search and Discovery platform with a hybrid search engine, which comprises both keyword and semantic search in a single API.

The combination of Algolia (with its keyword search) and Search.io (with its vector-based semantic search), enables Algolia to more effectively surface the most accurate and relevant results for users, whether they use specific keywords or natural human expressions. Many companies claim to offer some form of semantic search, however, these companies may not offer the capabilities of keyword search and vector-based semantic search in a single API cost-effectively, or the ability to scale. In essence, Algolia provides users with the ability to search as they think. With Search.io, Algolia aims to empower business users with a better way to manage the automation of unique and engaging end user experiences.

Apollo GraphQL & MongoDB create stack for app developers

Apollo GraphQL and MongoDB, Inc., announced a technology partnership that helps app developers build richer experiences faster, and reduce technical debt with a graph-native data layer. The partnership makes it easier for developers and teams to directly connect any supergraph powered by Apollo to a MongoDB Atlas database. Together, an Apollo supergraph and MongoDB Atlas create a composable and scalable GraphQL data layer. It provides developers with everything they need to efficiently use GraphQL:

  • A unified API, so app developers can rapidly create new experiences
  • A modular API layer, so each team can independently own their slice of the graph
  • A seamless, high-performance, flexible data layer that scales alongside API consumption

MongoDB’s flexible database paired with the GraphQL query language allows developers to work with the database in the language of their choice with a standardized spec that has large community adoption. With the nested document model, developers can model and query data intuitively without the complexity of mapping GraphQL to relational data and defining relationships across tables. When used with MongoDB Atlas’s multi-region and multi-cloud capabilities, an Apollo supergraph gives its developers a GraphQL layer to create end-user experiences for their apps and services.
