XML and the Rich Client

Writing for Power Builder Developer’s Journal, Coach Wei has an excellent article on how XML can play a key role in beefing up client applications in J2EE environments.

This question of client functionality continues to be key. Content applications, especially, often demand rich feature sets for client interfaces. The question is how to bring enough functionality out to the client without significant investment in cost and resources. As organizations bring more business process out to the browser–for larger and larger audiences–this question continues to pose practical challenges.

Syncro Soft Updates XML Editor, Schema Editor & XSLT Debugger

Syncro Soft Ltd announced the immediate availability of Version 6.1 of its XML Editor, Schema Editor and XSLT Debugger. Version 6.1 of the XML Editor adds as main features an XSLT profiler, enhanced XML Schema documentation, automatic detection of the XSLT parameters, RelaxNG annotation support and persistent bookmarks. XML Editor adds an XSLT profiler available from the debugger perspective. You can profile your XSLT stylesheets to identify the performance issues using two comprehensive data views of the activated templates: an Invocation tree view and a Hotspots view. The profiling information can be saved to XML or HTML formats. The profiling is available for Saxon 6.5.4, Saxon 8B, and Xalan 2.5.1. Thus you can profile both XSLT 1.0 and XSLT 2.0 stylesheets. A few improvements were made to the schema navigation with the show definition action that allows to follow a reference to its definition, to the schema diagrams support with the in place editing support. The latest Xerces XML parser (2.7.0) from the Apache Foundation and the new Saxon 6.5.4 parser for XSLT 1.0 were integrated into . Snowbound Software Introduces FlexSnap: SI for Webtop

Snowbound Software announced the immediate availability for its FlexSnap: SI for Webtop, a web viewer that offers high-speed viewing capabilities for Documentum’s Webtop application. FlexSnap: SI is a Java servlet/applet combination configured to integrate seamlessly with Webtop. It enhances Webtop to provide users with a universal interface to retrieve, view, annotate, manipulate, convert, and print multiple document and image formats from the repository. Because FlexSnap: SI is maintained on a web server there is no individual installation process required on the client side. FlexSnap: SI comes standard with a configurable interface enabling companies to support specific user group and business requirements in addition to offering international language support for menus and dialog boxes. Mondosoft Launches MondoSearch 5.2

Mondosoft announced the immediate availability of MondoSearch 5.2 targeting small and medium size web projects with up to 100,000 pages, providing improved performance and faster ranking results. Mondosoft Enterprise Edition, designed to benefit web sites with more than 100,000 pages, was released in March 2005. Increased indexing speed and much lower load on the indexed server makes it easy to update web sites and enhance search performance. Key to the improved speed and performance of MondoSearch 5.2 is multi-threaded connection pooling. MondoSearch 5.2 includes three .NET search templates. Each template represents a style and design that is can be tailored to fit any functionality and design specification. Mondosoft’s .NET Search templates make search integration in .NET environments more efficient. MondoSearch 5.2 has a Web Services interface that allows new users to search across content, applications and geographical distance. In addition, MQL (Mondosoft Query Language),.NET capabilities and the Search control from the Search Kit, have been integrated to the way MondoSearch works with .NET.

XyEnterprise Adds Verity K2D to Content@

Verity Inc. (NASDAQ:VRTY) announced that XyEnterprise has added Verity K2 Developer (K2D) OEM search, classification and recommendation software in its Content@ 3.2 XML content management application. Verity K2D provides search, classification and recommendation features that enable Content@ users to retrieve content based on text, metadata or a combination of both using Verity’s query language. End-users can leverage the search results to find relevant content for incorporation into existing projects or they can automatically create a new project that will send relevant content to the appropriate users by way of Content@’s workflow engine. XyEnterprise also offers foreign language search support in Content@ 3.2 through the Verity K2D’s Unilocale capability. Initially, the company is offering Spanish language support, and it plans to provide additional language support as customer requirements evolve. ,

IBM to Acquire PureEdge Solutions

IBM (NYSE:IBM) announced it has signed an agreement to acquire PureEdge Solutions Inc. Financial terms were not disclosed. PureEdge is a developer of electronic forms (or e-forms), which help companies customize the employee interface to business applications and enables the capture, process, and display of business data. IBM will integrate PureEdge e-forms into its portfolio of collaboration technology, including IBM Workplace and Lotus offerings. PureEdge technology takes back-end corporate data and applications – such as inventory figures, customer data or pricing information – and presents it to end-users in a standardized, customizable template. PureEdge e-forms are based on XML. Full XML compliance is one of the reasons why PureEdge is one of the leading providers of e-forms and business process automation solutions. PureEdge has been an active supporter of the industry standard for electronic form documents called XForms to allow interoperability without limiting the choice in software, operating system or computing platform. PureEdge will add strategic value to IBM’s broader portfolio of On Demand software solutions through tight alignment with IBM Workplace, IBM’s WebSphere and IBM Content Manager offerings. http://www.software.ibm.com

Midgard 1.7rc2 “Patent Free” Released

The Midgard Project has released the second release candidate version of the 1.7 Midgard Open Source Content Management Framework. Midgard provides a CMS framework build for the the LAMP platform. Midgard’s core features include internationalization, accessibility, scalability and PHP connectivity.
