Snowbound Software announced web viewer enhancements including format support for Microsoft Word documents enabling end users to view and convert Word files without the requirement of having Microsoft Office installed on their computer. Improvements in server side caching have also improved the speed of document retrieval and viewing. FlexSnap: SI is a Java servlet/applet combination configured to integrate with content or document management systems. It gives users a universal interface allowing them to retrieve, view, annotate, manipulate, convert, and print multiple document and image formats from their document repository through a standard web browser. With these new improvements, end users can retrieve and view a specific single page contained within a large document without having to wait for the entire file to download. In the latest release, the number of pages stored on the client side can now be optimized for greatest memory efficiency. Additionally thumbnails have also been enhanced to provide end users faster display and retrieval of images. Improvements have been made to the memory management in the applet as well as the ability for system administrators to configure both image scaling and compression levels. By setting parameters, large images can be automatically reduced to a more manageable size to avoid memory problems. Administrators can also configure the level of compression for JPEG and TIFF-JPEG images. http://www.snowbound.com

Cambridge, MA, September 19, 2005. The Gilbane Report and Lighthouse Seminars today announced that the Gilbane Conference on Content Management will take place November 29th – December 1st at The Westin Copley Place in Boston, Massachusetts. This annual event brings together thought leaders and practitioners to provide attendees with actionable advice, techniques, best practices, and case studies to help successfully implement content technologies critical to their businesses.
Because of the need to apply content technologies throughout enterprises, the variety of business applications involved, and the diversity of relevant content technologies, the conference program is organized by categories of job function, rather than by technology. The five tracks are:
Content Managers Track (CM). This track is for anyone managing content of any type, for everything from small websites, to knowledge management intranets, to large enterprise content strategies.
Content Technologists Track (CT). These sessions are for IT or technically oriented content or business managers. The material is a little more technical and looks at a select set of content-related technologies.
Marketing Managers Track (MT). This track is designed for content managers who need to manage marketing content, whether for an e-commerce site or a cross-media brand or publishing strategy.
Business & Compliance Managers Track (BC). This track is for managers responsible for compliance, governance, and managing content to enhance business processes and risk reduction.
Content Technology Works Track (CTW). In addition to our four job-function tracks this special track presents and examines case studies that have been evaluated as part of the Gilbane Content Technology Works Program. The emphasis is on all aspects of successful implementations.
The conference has three dynamic keynote panels:
Wednesday, November 30 at 8:30 a.m.
New Technologies You Need to Consider for Content Management Strategies
The pace of information technology development continues to increase as organizations develop experience in implementing content applications, and as software vendors vie to incorporate their customer’s feedback into product technologies ahead of the competition. As most enterprise applications become more content-oriented, content technology developments are coming from a broader base of suppliers and developers. This session will look at technologies relevant to content-oriented applications many people may not be aware of, or may not think of in the context of content management strategies.

Blog, Wiki, and RSS Technology – Are they Enterprise Ready? Applicable? Or a Passing Tempest in a Teacup?
Most organizations have probably not seriously considered using these technologies in enterprise applications. Yet there are companies using these technologies for collaboration, knowledge management, and publishing applications in corporate environments, and there are vendors marketing products based on these to businesses like yours. Do these companies only represent the experimental fringe, or are they early adopters of technologies that will soon be part of every IT department’s bag of tricks? This session will focus on the suitability of these for corporate use and hear from both skeptics and proponents of, for example enterprise or group blogs.
