Content management is a broad topic that refers to the management of unstructured or semi-structured content as a standalone system or a component of another system. Magic Software Enterprises and Software AG in Germany announced a partnership to enable XML connectivity for iSeries applications. By combining Magic eDeveloper with the Software AG’s Tamino XML Server, the companies provide a technological environment for building and enabling iSeries applications to take advantage of XML and cross-platform data transfer. In addition, existing iSeries applications can be upgraded, modernized and XML-enabled, increasing the value and life span of existing applications. Authentica Announces Alliance with Matrix Logic

Authentica, Inc. announced a technology integration alliance with Matrix Logic Corporation. The companies will integrate Authentica’s content security software into Hummingbird document management systems and eRoom digital collaboration environments. This integration effort will bolster the content security for Hummingbird DM (formerly PC DOCS) and eRoom by adding a level of access control, encryption, and revision and auditing controls for content and information assets shared outside corporate boundaries. The integration of Authentica’s content security software with Hummingbird DOCS Open, PowerDOCS and DM 5, will enable users to securely share documents with business associates and customers outside of the DOCS environment and across the internet. Applied Semantics Unveils Industry Taxonomies for Auto-Categorization

Applied Semantics, Inc. unveiled the addition of four new taxonomies as extensions to its Auto-Categorizer product. The four taxonomies, supplementing the existing ODP (Open Directory Project) and International Press Telecommunications Council (IPTC) taxonomy portfolio, include: MeSH (Medical Subject Headings) based on the National Library of Medicine’s (NLM) controlled vocabulary thesaurus of more than 20,000 top-level headings used by NLM for indexing articles; the U.S. Department of Labor’s SIC (Standard Industrial Classification System); the UNSPSC (Universal Standard Products and Services Classification), a 13,000-plus category taxonomy for classifying products and services of, for buy- and sell-side catalogs; and an 800-category taxonomy consisting of country codes standardized around the ISO 3166 alpha-2 code schema, enhanced with U.S. states and major U.S. and international cities. Gauss Announces Support for Oracle9i Application Server

Gauss announced that its ECM Suite, VIP Enterprise, now runs on Oracle9i Application Server (Oracle9iAS). The combination of VIP Enterprise and Oracle9i Application Server helps reduce the time and cost of distributing content to the Web for enterprises with decentralized e-business environments. Oracle9iAS provides the infrastructure to deploy distributed Web applications. VIP Enterprise provides content management capabilities for the global enterprise, including multi-language support; a proxy-server architecture to securely extend content management across geographically dispersed Web sites; and support for database distribution and replication capabilities through the Oracle Database.
