IBM announced it has signed a definitive agreement with Tarian Software to acquire all assets of the company. Tarian is a privately held provider of e-Records management software based in Ottawa, Canada. The acquisition is expected to close in the fourth quarter, 2002. Financial details were not disclosed. The acquisition is meant to strengthen IBM’s Enterprise Content Management offering, a fast-growing segment of its Data Management portfolio and a “key strategic priority for the company”. Once the acquisition is completed, IBM plans to: Integrate Tarian business operations and personnel into the Data Management Software group; Market and sell Tarian technology worldwide through an integrated IBM and Tarian sales force; and leverage Tarian technology across the entire IBM software portfolio – including IBM Content Manager, DB2 database and Lotus software. www.software.ibm.com/data

In doing so, AlltheWeb is now faster to load and can be displayed consistently across a wider range of Web browsers and browser platforms. Avid Technology, Inc. announced it has acquired substantially all the assets of iKnowledge, Inc., a developer of enterprise content aggregation, distribution and syndication solutions. Avid will immediately begin selling a new digital asset management and distribution offering based on the technology acquired from iKnowledge. Terms of the deal were not disclosed. The new addition to the Avid family is a rich-media asset management and distribution solution that helps aggregate any digital content, in its native format, from multiple sources. Customers can add business rules to manage the content – such as to which Web site to send the media and when to send it – and distribute it via any channel, from broadband to wireless, or, ultimately, to any device, including PCs, WAP phones, PDAs, and iTV.
