IXOS & Convera Partner

Convera and IXOS Software Inc. announced a new partnership designed to assist enterprise customers in managing large volumes of business documents and email communications. IXOS will sell Converas RetrievalWare search and categorization software as an optional component of the IXOS-eCONserver product. The combined solution will add Converas search capabilities to enable customers to retrieve email messages, attachments and other business documents from the IXOS-eCONserver archive for a variety of purposes, including records management, discovery and general knowledge management. The solution, available immediately, will be sold to the commercial and federal market by IXOS North American sales teams in the United States, Canada and Mexico. www.ixos.com, www.convera.com

Convera Launches Taxonomy Developer Program with 10 Partners

Convera announced that it has certified ten partners as part of its new Taxonomy Developer Certification Program. Under the program, Convera trains and certifies IT and knowledge management professionals in the development and deployment of custom taxonomies and classifications using Converas new RetrievalWare Categorization and Dynamic Classification product. Participants who completed the five-day certification program include Access Innovations, Advanced Technology Systems (ATS), Bleuphish, Creative Technology Inc., IBM Italia, KAPS Group LLC, Mitre, MZM Inc., SRA International Inc., and Veridian Engineering. Certified Taxonomy Developers will serve as consultants and service providers to assist Convera customers in understanding their information management needs, organizing their information in a way that best serves their objectives, and developing well-tuned taxonomies for use with Convera software. Certified Taxonomy Developers also will have the opportunity to market cartridges that they have developed within the Convera customer base as pre-built taxonomies. www.convera.com

FAST Unveils Data Search 3.2

Fast Search & Transfer (FAST) unveiled FAST Data Search 3.2, an advanced version of its real-time search solution that is designed for organizations seeking either departmental or enterprise wide solutions. Offered as FAST Data Search Professional, FAST Data Search Enterprise, and FAST Data Search SST, the FAST Data Search product line now includes Live Analytics, which enables “on-the-fly” data and information analysis with a dynamic drill-down capability, where end users can tap the specific information they need based on the actual data in the result set, rather than pre-defined binning of the data. Also now included is the Business Manager’s Control Panel, so business managers can tune the search attributes of the data source. Additional enhancements include improvements to the combination of structured and unstructured data capabilities, automatic document categorization, dynamic result clustering, and similarity based results analysis. Advanced linguistics support for Japanese was added, and automatic language detection was increased to support 54 languages. FAST Data Search also now includes enhanced security features and supports HP-UX and Red Hat Linux Advanced Server, in addition to IBM AIX, Red Hat Linux, Solaris, and Windows 2000/XP. www.fastsearch.com

Mondosoft & SiteCore to Provide Enhanced Content Management

Mondosoft announced an integration between MondoSearch site search and SiteCore’s content management system. The integration enables MondoSearch enterprise search to index and retrieve content managed by SiteCore content management system to provide information retrieval and immediate access to business content. Both solutions use Microsoft .NET built technology. Web site owners will also have the advantage of visitor search activity reporting to determine who is using the search function, what information they are looking for and, what they are finding and not finding on the site. Content can be simply adjusted and refined using both SiteCore and MondoSearch. www.mondosoft.com

FAST Sells Internet Business to Overture; to Focus on Enterprise Search

Fast Search & Transfer (FAST) and Overture Services, Inc. have entered into an agreement under which Overture will acquire FAST’s Internet business unit for $70 million in cash, as well as performance-based cash incentive payments for up to $30 million over three years. Under the terms of the agreement, Overture will acquire FAST’s Internet business unit assets including FAST Web Search, AlltheWeb.com, and FAST PartnerSite products, related intellectual property rights, as well as data centers and equipment in Sacramento (USA) and London (UK). In addition, the FAST Internet business unit personnel will transfer to Overture. Overture has also licensed FAST Data Search. The agreement is subject to standard review and regulatory processes, which the two companies anticipate will be completed by April 2003. FAST will now focus on their enterprise search solutions, which is where most of their revenue has come from. www.fastsearch.com

Stratify Becomes FAST Reseller

Fast Search & Transfer (FAST) and Stratify, Inc. announced a reseller agreement. Stratify will integrate FAST Data Search, a customizable software platform designed to tackle real-time data-intensive search and information retrieval challenges, with the Stratify Discovery System, a taxonomy and categorization solution that organizes, classifies and leverages large amounts of unstructured information. The combined solution will provide information-intensive enterprises with a search and categorization platform available to manage their structured and unstructured data resources. Antarctica Announces Visual Net 3.0

Antarctica Systems Inc. announced the availability of Visual Net 3.0. This release provides users with more control over how they view and navigate large information repositories, enabling users to ask better questions of their data. Key to the delivery of these new capabilities has been the integration of Macromedia Flash. Visual Net 3.0 builds on existing search and retrieval capabilities to include an early warning system providing a proactive approach to managing business activity data. Antarctica is now targeting new markets, in particular, business intelligence (BI). New Capabilities with Visual Net 3.0 include the ability to configure the Visual Net interface using color, shape and size, the Macromedia Flash interface, and filtering capabilities to allow users to drive their browsing experience based on any selection of data fields, for fast ad hoc querying, exploration and trend identification. Visual Net 3.0 integrates with existing infrastructure to exploit the investments that enterprises have already made in search and BI technology. Visual Net 3.0 is available immediately.

Canto announces Internet Client Pro

Canto announced “Internet Client Pro”. Internet Client Pro, part of the
Cumulus Enterprise Edition, is based on Cumulus Java Classes and JSP technology and replaces the “Internet Client” based on cgi technology. Internet Client Pro is especially designed for users who do not merely publish their assets but also intend to use them for marketing and generating business, as is the case in marketing departments, ad agencies, publishing houses, and PR
departments. Internet Client Pro is only compatible with the Cumulus Enterprise Edition. Internet Client Pro enables users to create dynamic web pages allowing visitors to search for images and other documents within Cumulus catalogs using a standard Web browser, then they can sort and select and place the items in a collection basket for download. According to their user rights visitors also can catalog new assets, assign assets to new categories, edit and update stored metadata or check out and check in assets for local processing without having to install additional software. Internet Client Pro is due to be available in the middle of February 2003 with an English, German, and French user interface on Mac OS X, Windows, Solaris and Linux platforms. www.canto.com
