IONA & DataChannel in Global Alliance

IONA announced a global alliance with DataChannel Inc. under which the two companies have agreed to engage in joint sales activities. Under the terms of the agreement, DataChannel will integrate its product, DataChannel Server, (DCS) with IONA’s iPortal Application Server 3.0. DataChannel’s enterprise portal platform supports iPortal Application Server 3.0 today, and will deploy on iPortal Application Server in future releases. In addition, IONA announced that it has signed a reselling relationship with DataChannel. BEA Announces WebLogic Portal 4.0

BEA Systems, Inc. announced BEA WebLogic Portal 4.0, based on BEA WebLogic Server. BEA WebLogic Portal 4.0 will incorporate BEA WebLogic Personalization Server, which currently ships with BEA Portal Framework. In addition, BEA WebLogic Portal 4.0 will include new portal technologies, user tools and partner applications to more easily and cost-effectively deploy e-business portals for employees, customers, partners and suppliers. BEA WebLogic Portal will include four critical technologies: personalization, portal framework, presentation, and integration. BEA WebLogic Portal will be delivered as an integrated solution with tools for business users to personalize users’ online experiences, and for IT organizations to enable enterprise-wide standards, security and administration. BEA WebLogic Portal can rapidly scale to thousands of concurrent users and transactions, and can be adapted to manage multiple portal initiatives. BEA also announced the Star Portal Solution, an expansion of BEA’s Star Partner Program. Partners include: Autonomy, ScreamingMedia, Documentum, Interwoven, Vignette, Caput.com, Compoze Software, Netegrity, and Securant. Autonomy, Documentum, Interwoven and ScreamingMedia will be bundled in the partner pack that ships with WebLogic Personalization Server 3.5 and will ship with WebLogic Portal 4.0. WebLogic Portal 4.0 will be available in fall 2001. Businesses can begin deploying portals now using BEA Portal Framework, included in current versions of BEA WebLogic Personalization Server and BEA WebLogic Commerce Server. Open Market Announces Integration With iPlanet Portal Server 3.0

Open Market, Inc. announced the availability of an integration between its Content Server Enterprise Edition (CSEE) software and the iPlanet Portal Server 3.0 from iPlanet E-Commerce Solution. This integration provides interoperability between the iPlanet Portal Server and Open Market’s CSEE software through a plug-in. With this integration, iPlanet Portal Server “channels” are used to access Open Market’s applications and the content they manage. For example, one channel can allow geographically dispersed content contributors to access Open Market’s applications with a single sign-on. Another channel allows iPlanet Portal Server users to access news and company information that is targeted to their role in the organization. Open Market and iPlanet worked in conjunction with Migration Software Systems to allow the two environments to operate as a single solution. The integrated solution is available today from both Open Market and iPlanet. Interwoven & Netegrity Form Alliance for Portals & Marketplaces

Interwoven, Inc. and Netegrity, Inc. announced an alliance and planned integration of their two products. The joint offering will provide a solution for portal and B2B infrastructure beyond the four walls of the enterprise, allowing customers, suppliers, partners, and employees to contribute and manage their content in an efficient and effective manner. Together, Interwoven TeamSite software and Netegrity’s SiteMinder platform will enable enterprises to streamline the content collaboration and content management processes for portal users and marketplace participants. Netegrity’s single sign-on offers the capability for all portal users to be automatically logged into TeamSite and be provided the proper roles and permissions to contribute content to the Web site. Vignette Corp. announced the upcoming release of the Vignette Enterprise Application Portal. The Vignette Enterprise Application Portal is a fully configurable, J2EE-based, out-of-the-box solution that provides the necessary infrastructure for a company to deploy an enterprise-level portal to carry out e-business transactions; manage relationships with customers, partners, suppliers and employees; and perform many mission-critical business functions through a common, enterprise-scale interface. The Vignette Enterprise Application Portal features browser-based management dashboards that enable business and technical users to control a host of functions from a central location. Site administrators can configure the portal to manage content from disparate sources and deliver what is relevant to users on a contextual basis. Ascential & SAP Portals Sign Agreement

Ascential Software and SAP AG announced they have signed a worldwide reseller agreement through which SAP and the newly-announced subsidiary, SAP Portals will resell Ascential DataStage as a data integration platform for mySAP Business Intelligence customers. DataStage will become part of the mySAP Business Intelligence framework, enabling companies to build enterprise data warehouse solutions that include data from virtually any source including enterprise applications, web and e-mail logs, XML or e-business data, legacy systems, open warehouse data stores, flat files and mainframes. Sybase Launches SDL’s Real-Time Translation for its Enterprise Portal

SDL International announced that Sybase, Inc. has integrated the Enterprise Translation Server into the Portal Translation Manager option available for Sybase Enterprise Portal 2.0. Portal Translation Manager (PTM) will provide real-time translations of documents or data flowing through the portal upon request, and is fully integrated with portal security and other services. Sybase offers an evaluation version of the Enterprise Translation Server to its customers as part of the Portal Translation Manager. The Enterprise Translation Server provides Portal Translation Manager business clients with a cross-language communication solution using real-time translation. The Enterprise Translation Server runs under Windows NT and enables the translation of plain text and document files over a Lotus Notes/Domino environment, a TCP/IP networking environment, a Microsoft networking environment, Java or HTML clients.
