Day announced that it has made available an implementation of the Content Repository API for Java Technology (JCR) to the Apache Software Foundation in order to further promote industry adoption and collaboration of the JSR 170 standard. Apache has formed a new Incubator project, code-named “Jackrabbit”, to accept the donation and guide future development of the software. JSR 170 recently passed the public review stage of the Java Community Process, and is currently incorporating public comments. Day, as JSR 170 Specification Lead, is responsible for developing an official Reference Implementation and Testing Compatibility Kit for the Content Repository API, and has chosen to do so through the Apache open source community in order to promote open collaboration among the various industry participants and further adoption of the standard by the community of server-side Java application developers.
