IBM announced it has signed a definitive agreement with Tarian Software to acquire all assets of the company. Tarian is a privately held provider of e-Records management software based in Ottawa, Canada. The acquisition is expected to close in the fourth quarter, 2002. Financial details were not disclosed. The acquisition is meant to strengthen IBM’s Enterprise Content Management offering, a fast-growing segment of its Data Management portfolio and a “key strategic priority for the company”. Once the acquisition is completed, IBM plans to: Integrate Tarian business operations and personnel into the Data Management Software group; Market and sell Tarian technology worldwide through an integrated IBM and Tarian sales force; and leverage Tarian technology across the entire IBM software portfolio – including IBM Content Manager, DB2 database and Lotus software. www.software.ibm.com/data

FileNET Corporation announced that its ECM software now includes iViews that have been tested and certified for integration with the mySAP Enterprise Portal. As part of its FileNET ECM for mySAP Enterprise Portal offering, FileNET has delivered a series of customized iViews, or mini-portal applications, which enable users to access enterprise content and participate in business processes from within an SAP solutions-based environment. FileNET’s iViews for mySAP Enterprise Portal are available as standard or customized components that adopt the mySAP Enterprise Portal personalization and integration capability. matterCast Inc. announced the beta release and demonstration site for its SVG (Scalable Vector Graphics) based e-Publishing and collaboration solution for serving Adobe PDF content on the web. The first in a series of planned releases aimed at automating the digital content supply chain, matterCasts SVG Document Server allows for the immediate and controlled online distribution of PDF content in SVG format, combining the presentation quality of PDF, the structural features of XML, the web based features of HTML and the collaborative features of a networked environment. matterCast has launched an SVG Demonstration Site to highlight some of the capabilities of its SVG solutions. The site provides samples of SVG content converted from PDF served from matterCasts SVG Document Server, and viewed through matterCasts SVG viewer. Fast Search & Transfer announced that Alltheweb.com, its search technology showcase, is fully adopting XHTML and CSS. In doing so, AlltheWeb is now faster to load and can be displayed consistently across a wider range of Web browsers and browser platforms. In addition, these new standards provide a future opportunity for AlltheWeb users to perform their searches on platforms such as mobile phones, PDAs, among others. FAST has also revealed several new “skins” for AlltheWeb, enabling users to personalize the look and feel of AlltheWeb. An assortment of skins have been created through AlltheWeb Alchemist, a tool FAST unveiled earlier this year, allowing technically-minded users to develop customized views of Web, multimedia, news and categorized search results from AlltheWeb via CSS. Interwoven Inc. and MediaBin Inc. announced they have signed an agreement integrating MediaBin Asset Manager with the Interwoven 5 platform via a MediaBin connector. The connector was developed in collaboration with Interflow Systems Consulting. WebWare Corporation announced an integration to Interwoven 5. The integrated Interwoven Solution for Media Asset Management (MAM) will enable enterprises to access their rich media assets within e-business initiatives managed by Interwoven 5, such as enterprise portals, corporate intranets, and external web properties. The connector to Interwoven 5 enables Interwoven users within the TeamSite environment to search, thumbnail, preview, transform and aggregate rich media assets into their Interwoven managed content. For Web application developers, Interwoven created TeamTurbo, which enables businesses to integrate the Interwoven ECM platform with J2EE and .Net application servers. Corel Corporation announced the upcoming availability of Corel XMetaLCentral, a new server-based application that works with Corel XMetaL to manage and maintain customized XML applications. Corel XMetaLCentral is designed for organizations with tens to thousands of XML document creators and editors. When used in conjunction with Corel XMetaL, Corel XMetaLCentral deploys personalized customizations or ‘packages’ to these end users based on their identity, the content they are working with, and factors in their environment. Invisible to the end user, these packages can be versioned, rolled back, or staged for future deployment.
