Atex Acquires Kaango

Kaango, a web classified advertisement software platform, has joined the Atex global family of companies. As part of a deal that keeps Hearst Corporation and MediaNews Group as shareholders. Atex plans to expand Kaango worldwide. Kaango, which launched in 2006, provides a Web-based software platform to syndicate and publish print and online classified ads. A key feature of Kaango websites is they do not send users clicking away to unknown sites to view and interact with ads. This allows Kaango’s media partners to provide large ad volumes and a consistent user experience within each marketplace. Kaango also supports social networking sites such as Twitter and Facebook as well as cross-posting to multiple Twitter accounts to support individual publishers. Atex will offer the Kaango service and brand to non-Atex sites as well as Atex’s current client base, as well as integrating Kaango technology within Atex’s advertising and Web content management systems.

Atex Announces Support for e-Reader Publishing

Atex announced their content management system, atex content, supports direct publication to e-readers and tablet devices. Media companies can capitalize on these technologies to publish content without custom development. The functionality could also allow publishers to develop new digital revenue streams while increasing the level of customer interaction. As e-reader demand is expected to increase as the technology develops, consumers will require more of their content to be delivered digitally. Atex content could help media companies take advantage of this trend with functionality to streamline digital content publishing. Whether it’s from print or the Web, editors can take content and reuse it in digital devices without needing additional staff or hardware. Instead of relying on a few products, e-readers could help media companies diversify what they provide to consumers. Depending on the model used, a media company will be able to track the content customers like most and allow readers to leave comments and answer poll questions. These social features should help publishers build tighter relationships with their readers and understand what content will retain their interest.

Atex Releases Polopoly Web CMS Version 9.14

Atex announced the latest release of its Polopoly Web content management system, designed to support a widget plug-in framework for adding third-party components to a website with little software development required. The new release, version 9.14, represents the latest phase of the Atex “Polopoly as a Platform” initiative, where media companies can pick and choose the applications to add to websites, aimed to give more control and flexibility over how sites are built and deployed. Software developers can create and exchange elements with other developers using the Polopoly widget plug-in model. This could help reduce the overall cost of Polopoly website development as companies can acquire new elements instead of building them in-house. Atex plans to create a “storefront” to sell and swap digital components. Atex has a plug-in available to allow connectivity between Polopoly and its A-Series Digital Asset Management system so that editors can instantly publish archive material online. Polopoly 9.14 sites can also take advantage of products offered by third-party vendors to provide fully packaged and validated integrations. Services like video streaming, social media apps, content gating, pay-per-view models, and other Internet functionalities can be added via Polopoly widget plug-ins.

Publishers Press introduces New Content Management Partnerships

Publishers Press, a publication printer and content distribution provider, announced two new partnerships that will support the company’s content management and distribution initiative. Publishers Press has partnered with Mark Logic as its content repository, and Atex/Temis for content enrichment. The web content management (WCM) portion uses Polopoly software by Atex. This system should allow clients to manage content for print and web distribution and will be available on a software as a service (SaaS) model. The system also integrates with the company’s other digital offerings such as e-mail marketing, digital editions, and analytics.

Atex Releases Polopoly v9.13 Web Content Management System

Atex released an update to their Web content management system, Polopoly 9.13, which integrates with their Text Mining engine to automatically tag, and categorize content. A new Polopoly widget also allows content to be “batch categorized”, which enhances the search results for end users, while providing internal users with a discovery and knowledge management tool. Instead of editors applying relevant categories manually, the text mining engine will now do it automatically. Editors can instruct the engine to analyze a piece of content and suggest relevant categories based on the text, and receive suggestions based on the metadata and IPTC categorization. With Polopoly 9.13, classified content is automatically placed in dynamic lists based on metadata selections in the repository. These lists can automatically serve up older stories with links for related content, which are placed in context alongside the current articles. Interested users could be encouraged to  “read more” or “find similar” stories based on information from the articles they are viewing. Publishers can even create new pages based entirely on archived content that’s been categorized by metadata.
