Effective collaboration initiatives often focus on process, information and technology. However the advent of enterprise social networking has expanded the scope of what’s possible, and it goes far beyond mere collaboration. This session will examine architectural building blocks that enable social networking, common practices to help overcome adoption hurdles, and governance and change management approaches. It will also contain a presentation of the work of an AIIM task force that has been building use cases and best practices relative to social transformation for 3 key value chains in any organization:
  1. sales and marketing;
  2. product design and innovation; and
  3. knowledge worker creativity and productivity.

This session will demonstrate why the time has come to move discussions of social business from the abstract benefits of “collaboration” to a richer focus on process and value chain transformation.

Adobe Digital Enterprise Platform Now Available

Adobe Systems Incorporated announced the immediate availability and free trial of its new Adobe Digital Enterprise Platform and first set of solutions for Customer Experience Management (CRM). The Adobe Digital Enterprise Platform, first unveiled in June, is an open, modular, standards-based offering for delivering engaging digital solutions across social, Web, mobile, and print channels. The platform includes integration with the Adobe Online Marketing Suite to optimize digital marketing campaigns and personalize digital experiences across all marketing, sales and service delivery channels. In addition, integration with Adobe Flash Builder(R) 4.5 and Flex 4.5 helps enterprise IT organizations build highly expressive mobile applications for Android devices, BlackBerry PlayBook, iPhone and iPad. HP to Acquire Autonomy

HP and Autonomy Corporation announced the terms of a recommended transaction under which HP will acquire all of the outstanding shares of Autonomy for £25.50 ($42.11) per share in cash. The transaction was unanimously approved by the boards of directors of both HP and Autonomy. The Autonomy board of directors also has unanimously recommended its shareholders accept the Offer. Based on the closing stock price of Autonomy on August 17, 2011, the consideration represents a one day premium to Autonomy shareholders of approximately 64 percent and a premium of approximately 58 percent to Autonomy’s prior one month average closing price. The transaction will be implemented by way of a takeover offer extended to all shareholders of Autonomy. A document containing the full details of the Offer will be dispatched as soon as practicable after the date of this release. The acquisition of Autonomy is expected to be completed by the end of calendar 2011. Founded in 1996, Autonomy is a provider of infrastructure software for the enterprise with a customer base of more than 25,000 global companies. Positions HP as leader in large and growing space‚Äî Autonomy has a strong position in the $20 billion enterprise information management space, which is growing at 8 percent annually and is uniquely positioned to continue growth within this space. Furthermore, key Autonomy assets would provide HP with the ability to reinvent the $55 billion business analytics software and services space, which is growing at 8 percent annually. Box Achieves Mobile Ubiquity with New Offerings for Enterprise Platforms

Box has launched three new mobile solutions, with Box for Android Tablet, Box for PlayBook, and an HTML5 compatible mobile browser. These new mobile offerings join Box’s apps for iPad and TouchPad, rounding out the company’s tablet app lineup. Additionally Box launched a rebuilt version of m.box.net, its mobile web offering. The new m.box.net site leverages HTML5 features to enable users to easily view files and folders as well as directly add comments, share new content and search throughout their entire account quickly on any device. www.box.net

OnBase 11.0: ECM Software for Higher Education

Hyland Software has changed the capabilities of ECM software for colleges and universities with its latest software release, OnBase 11.0. More than 1,800 additions and enhancements were made in Hyland Software’s OnBase 11.0. These changes include‚Äî Configurable SIS integrations; Transcript capture and transfer credit evaluation; and Cross-browser support. http://www.hyland.com

OpenText Acquires Global 360

OpenText announced it has acquired Global 360 Holding Corporation, a provider of process and case management solutions. The acquisition continues OpenText’s expansion into business process management (BPM) market. The transaction purchase price is approximately $260 million, subject to customary purchase price and holdback adjustments. The transaction has closed in the first quarter of fiscal 2012 and is not part of the fiscal 2011 fourth quarter and year-end results of OpenText. In February 2011, OpenText also acquired Metastorm, which offers other solutions that complement Global 360, such as business process analysis and enterprise architecture software. http://www.opentext.com http://www.global360.com

EMC and Box Deliver Enterprise Content Management Mobility Through the Cloud

EMC Corporation announced a technology collaboration with Box to develop integrated content management solutions, bringing cloud-enabled sharing and collaboration to global enterprises. Customers get Box’s user interface, easy external collaboration, and content access from any mobile device, paired with the enterprise-class security, compliance and process management from EMC Documentum. EMC Documentum customers can connect their on-premise deployments to Box through Box’s ECM Cloud Connect, to synchronize, archive and transfer content between the two systems. The companies are currently working to build deeper integrations to offer customers a better content management and collaboration experience. New Paper – Looking at Website Governance

I am delighted that I’ve just completed my first solo paper here as an analyst: Looking Outside the CMS Box for Enterprise Website Governance. I say solo, but I ought to start by saying I’m grateful for having had a great deal of support from Mary Laplante as my reform from vendor to analyst continues.

This paper has allowed me to pick at a subject that I’ve long had in the back of my mind, both in terms of CMS product strategy and of what we, as content management professionals, need to be cognizant of as we get swept up in engaging web experiences – that of corporate content governance.

When I write and talk about web engagement or the web experience, I often refer to the first impression – that your website meets all of your audience, prospects, customers or citizens. They don’t all see your shiny headquarters building, meet the friendly receptionist or see that you have todays copy of The Times on the coffee table – but they do see your website.

Mistakes such as a misspelling, an outdated page or a brand inconsistency all reflect badly on your attention to detail. This tarnishes the professionalism of your services, the reliability of your products, and attention you will pay to meeting consumer needs.

Of course, when those lapses are related to compliance issues (such as regulatory requirements and accessibility standards), they can be even more damaging, often resulting in financial penalties and a serious impact on your reputation.

I see this governance as the foundation for any content driven business application, but in this paper we focus on website governance and aim to answer the following questions:

  • What are the critical content governance risks and issues facing the organization? 
  • Is your CMS implementation meeting these challenges? 
  • What solutions are available to address governance needs that are not addressed by CMS?
