IBM Unveils Big Data Software

IBM unveiled new software for managing and analyzing big data to the workplace. The new offerings span a wide variety of big data and business analytics technologies across multiple platforms from mobile devices to the data center to IBM’s SmartCloud. Now employees from any department inside an organization can explore unstructured data such as Twitter feeds, Facebook posts, weather data, log files, genomic data and video, and make sense of it as part of their everyday work experience. IBM is also placing the power of mobile analytics into the hands of iPad users with a free download in Apple’s iTunes Store. The new software is designed to help employees in industries such as financial services, healthcare, government, communications, retail, and travel and transportation use and benefit from business analytics on the go. IBM is delivering new analytics and information management offerings: New Hadoop-based analytics software on the cloud, which helps employees tap into massive amounts of unstructured data from a variety of sources including social networks, mobile devices and sensors; New mobile analytics software for iPad users; and new predictive analytics software with a mapping feature that can be used across industries for marketing campaigns, retail store allocation, crime prevention, and academic assessment.

Endeca Now Integrates Hadoop

Endeca Technologies, Inc., an agile information management software company, announced native integration of Endeca Latitude with Apache Hadoop. Endeca Latitude, based on the Endeca MDEX hybrid search-analytical database, is uniquely suited to unlock the power of Apache Hadoop. Apache Hadoop is strong at manipulating semi-structured data, which is a challenge for traditional relational databases. This combination provides flexibility and agility in combining diverse and changing data, and performance in analyzing that data. Enabling Agile BI requires a complete data-driven solution that unites integration, exploration and analysis from source data through end-user access that can adapt to changing data, changing data sources, and changing user needs. Solutions that require extensive pre-knowledge of data models and end-user needs fail to meet the agility requirement. The united Endeca Latitude and Apache Hadoop solution minimizes data modeling, cleansing, and conforming of data prior to unlocking the value of Big Data for end-users.

IBM Labs Announces ProAct, Text Analytics for Call Centers

Researchers at IBM’s India Research Laboratory have developed software technology that uses sophisticated math algorithms to extract and deliver business insights hidden within the information gathered by companies during customer service calls and other interactions. The new business intelligence technology, called ProAct, is a text analytics tool, which automates previously manual analysis and evaluation of customer service calls and provides insight to help companies assess and improve their performance. ProAct provides an integrated analysis of structured information such as agent and product databases and unstructured data such as email, call logs, call transcription to identify reason for dissatisfaction, agent performance issues and typical product problems. Based on the Unstructured Information Management Analysis (UIMA) framework that IBM contributed to the open source Apache Software Foundation in 2006, the ProAct technology was initially developed as a service engagement. Now the new algorithms are being packaged in software and deployed in many IBM call center customers around the world. UIMA is an open source software framework that helps organizations build new analysis technologies that help organizations gain more insight from their unstructured information by discovering relationships, identifying patterns, and predicting outcomes. IBM uses UIMA to enable text analysis, extraction and concept search capabilities in other parts of its portfolio of enterprise search software products, including OmniFind Enterprise Edition, OmniFind Analytics Edition, and OmniFind Yahoo! Edition.

Business Objects, EDGAR Online & Ipedo Announce XBRL BI Solution

Business Objects (Nasdaq:BOBJ), EDGAR Online, Inc. (Nasdaq:EDGR), and Ipedo announced an XBRL-enhanced business intelligence (XBRL-BI) solution to enable organizations to efficiently access financial information to drive more accurate financial analysis and business decisions. The XBRL-BI solution leverages the capabilities of BusinessObjects XI, EDGAR Online’s I-Metrix suite of XBRL-based products, and Ipedo XIP, an enterprise information integration platform. Utilizing financial filings from EDGAR Online’s I-Metrix Web Service and Ipedo’s XIP integration platform, BusinessObjects XI allows research analysts, institutional investors, fund managers, regulators, and corporate officers to gain insight into market conditions directly from corporate filings, as they happen. The integrated XBRL-BI solution, based on eXtensible Business Reporting Language (XBRL), combines financial domain knowledge with data integration practices to deliver a pre-built data repository ready for financial analysis. EDGAR Online’s proprietary systems convert existing SEC data into XBRL, and then make it available via its I-Metrix suite of products. Ipedo then pulls the XBRL-tagged financial data from the EDGAR Online I-Metrix service, processes the financial data and business context, and delivers it to an XBRL-enhanced BusinessObjects universe, for use with the BusinessObjects XI business intelligence platform using Crystal Reports or BusinessObjects Web Intelligence.,, ,
