DataDirect Technologies, an operating company of Progress Software Corporation (NASDAQ: PRGS), announced the latest release of the DataDirect Data Integration Suite featuring new versions of its XML-based component technologies for data integration in traditional and service-oriented environments. eZ Systems announced the release of eZ Components version 2008.2. This is the seventh major version of eZ Components, which is a general-purpose PHP library of over 40 components used independently or together for PHP application development. The latest versions of eZ Publish are also based on eZ Components. With eZ Components, developers can concentrate on solving customer-specific needs. The eZ Components tool set provides key application functionality, such as caching, authentication, database interaction, templates, graphs, and much more. Main improvements in this release include more features for the Document and Webdav components. The Document component, which enables you to convert documents between different formats, was already able to convert ReST to XTHML and DocBook. In this release, more formats are implemented, such as three different wiki formats (Confluence, Creole and DokuWiki), the eZ Publish XML formats, as well as reading XHTML and writing ReST. The wiki parser can easily be extended for other wiki formats. The Webdav component now supports authentication and authorization, as well as support for integrating authentication mechanisms into existing systems. In addition, it supports shared and exclusive write locks, even with custom storage back-ends. The main new development of the eZ Components 2008.2 release is the MvcTools component. The MvcTools component implements the tools for a framework. Standards for Technology in Automotive Retail (STAR) will release an update to its STAR Workbench product at its October General Session meeting in Chicago, Illinois. The Workbench leverages version 3.4 of the Eclipse Platform, and Eclipse Web Development Tools 3.0, along with several open source applications. As with the prior version of the STAR Workbench, the primary purpose of releasing the Workbench is to provide STAR members with a free set of XML tools that can be used to help with the implementation and testing of STAR BODs. The STAR Workbench provides a platform neutral tool set for testing and developing STAR BODs. New in version 2.0 is the ability to update the system as new features are added and bugs are fixed, through the built in Update Manager. Version 2.0 also adds more support for several Web Service technologies including WS- ReliableMessaging, WS-Policy, WS-Addressing, and XML Encryption and Digital Signatures. It also continues support for EBMS 2.0 by providing content assistance for EBMS messages and specifications. Curl Inc. announced that it has completed the final phase of its Eclipse development strategy with the general availability release of Curl Development tools for Eclipse (CDE). The CDE is a set of Eclipse plug-ins that provides an environment for developing programs in the Curl language and on the current release of the Curl Rich Internet Application (RIA) Platform, Version 6.0. With the full release of the CDE, programmers can see features of the Curl platform within the Eclipse development environment. The CDE includes a language sensitive editor and search, integration into the Eclipse debugger as well as the Eclipse workspace for Curl projects and preferences, and documentation.
