nSight Offers Complimentary Technical Documentation Review to Show Advantages of Structured Writing

nSight Inc., a technical and educational content development and publishing services firm, today announced that it is offering a complimentary review of technical documentation to demonstrate the advantages of using a structured writing approach to producing product information. nSight made the announcement at the Gilbane Boston 2008 conference, where they are exhibiting in Booth PP. MathType 6.5 for Windows is Now Shipping

Design Science today announced the release of MathType 6.5 for Windows, a new version designed to work with a wide variety of education and scientific applications and websites. The company introduced its Equations Everywhere and Anywhere! initiative, hosting the MathType Interoperability Registry on its website, a listing of several hundred popular educational and scientific applications and websites that MathType now works with. This new version also includes translators for Mathematica and Maple, MathML import, and enables users to type TeX/LaTeX equations directly into Microsoft Word. Welocalize and Clay Tablet Partner on Integration of Open Source Translation Management System

W3C Advances SMIL 3.0 Standard for Synchronized Multimedia

The World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) announced a new standard to make it easier to author interactive multimedia presentations. "Synchronized Multimedia Integration Language (SMIL 3.0)" allows video, audio, images, text, and hypertext links to be combined into interactive presentations, with fine-grain control of layout and timing. "The importance of SMIL 3.0 is that it contains a set of user-requested features that provide exciting new functionality, while retaining all the advantages of a declarative (that is, without scripting) approach to building a multimedia presentation," said Dick Bulterman, chair of the Synchronized Multimedia Working Group, which published the specification. XBRL US Invites Participation in Public Review of US GAAP Data Tags Release 2009

XBRL US, the nonprofit consortium for XML business reporting standards, announced that they had completed a new draft of the XBRL US GAAP Taxonomies, and have made it available for public review. This second release of the US GAAP data tags builds on the first release completed and published on April 28, 2008 under contract with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). An SEC rule proposal, published on May 30, 2008 would require the use of XBRL for the largest public companies (with worldwide public float of $5 billion or higher), reporting as early as Q1 2009. The XBRL US GAAP Taxonomies would be the required data tags for those companies filing in XBRL format. The XBRL US support and maintenance program for continual review and revision to the taxonomies is designed to ensure that the dictionary of terms is always consistent with new accounting standards and that it reflects changes in common reporting practices in the marketplace. Hundreds of comments received since April 28, 2008 have been vetted and incorporated into this latest release along with new FASB pronouncements including FAS141R, FAS160, FAS161 and FAS163, among others. The public comment period provides an opportunity for stakeholders such as public company preparers, investors, financial analysts, auditors and software providers to review and comment on the taxonomy. The public comment period ends on January 15, 2009. Comments received will be reviewed and potentially incorporated, and the final dictionary of US GAAP terms will be available for use in February.
