nSight Offers Complimentary Technical Documentation Review to Show Advantages of Structured Writing

nSight Inc., a technical and educational content development and publishing services firm, today announced that it is offering a complimentary review of technical documentation to demonstrate the advantages of using a structured writing approach to producing product information. nSight made the announcement at the Gilbane Boston 2008 conference, where they are exhibiting in Booth PP. Structured writing is an effective and efficient method for developing structured, reusable, consistent, and coherent technical documentation. To introduce clients to this approach, nSight is offering to rework a sample of their own product information - a few pages from a user manual or installation guide, for example. One of nSight's senior technical writers will edit the text using structured writing principles, and then present a side-by-side comparison in a half-hour phone consultation. The documentation review and consultation are offered free of charge and with no obligation. http://www.nsightworks.com

The forthcoming GlobalSight open source Translation Management System (TMS), sponsored by Welocalize, will provide support for Clay Tablet 2.0 to enable connectivity to a wide variety of content management systems (CMS) or content repositories. This approach provides "out of the box" connectivity to a wide range of CMS' and integration possibilities with most others. GlobalSight will launch on January 5, 2009 as an open source TMS product that provides a scalable translation management platform for companies to manage, translate and deliver global content. Current development efforts have focused on transitioning the product to open source by replacing several third-party software components with open source equivalents. http://www.globalsight.com, http://www.welocalize.com, http://www.Clay-Tablet.com

W3C Advances SMIL 3.0 Standard for Synchronized Multimedia

The World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) announced a new standard to make it easier to author interactive multimedia presentations. "Synchronized Multimedia Integration Language (SMIL 3.0)" allows video, audio, images, text, and hypertext links to be combined into interactive presentations, with fine-grain control of layout and timing. "The importance of SMIL 3.0 is that it contains a set of user-requested features that provide exciting new functionality, while retaining all the advantages of a declarative (that is, without scripting) approach to building a multimedia presentation," said Dick Bulterman, chair of the Synchronized Multimedia Working Group, which published the specification.
Cynapse Updates cyn.in

Cynapse announced the release of cyn.in - v 2.1. Every space in cyn.in now come pre-fit with application perspectives. Manually creating applications as containers to content is no longer required. Simply create or upload any kind of content (such as a wiki page or an excel sheet) within a space and the content appears in the correct perspectives. Spaces have been the pivotal aspect of cyn.in. Spaces help a group of users to create a secure work area within their cyn.in site and allocate explicit permissions to select users within it. Spaces are vital to most large companies with diverse teams. However, a substantial number of our customers and users felt the need for a simplified central collaboration area, that is accessible to every user of the cyn.in. This gave birth to the concept of the Main space. This is where All users of a cyn.in site can create or edit any content, without worrying about permissions or sharing rights. Commenting, the most used feature in cyn.in just got better. cyn.in v2.1 enables AJAX based discussions providing a live chat kind of user experience. These discussions are contained in all content types in the cyn.in. A comment posted to any content 'bubbles' the content to the top of the activity stream, pushing the content to the relevant audience. Deleting content from an enterprise system is always a concern. Especially for businesses that need to follow compliance regulations. The new cyn.in recycle bin grabs deleted content from across the site, and allows the administrator to process the deleted content as per the compliance requirements. cyn.in is available in a free open source community edition, a supported enterprise edition, as well as cost effective on-demand packages. http://www.cynapse.com/

XBRL US Invites Participation in Public Review of US GAAP Data Tags Release 2009

XBRL US, the nonprofit consortium for XML business reporting standards, announced that they had completed a new draft of the XBRL US GAAP Taxonomies, and have made it available for public review. This second release of the US GAAP data tags builds on the first release completed and published on April 28, 2008 under contract with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). An SEC rule proposal, published on May 30, 2008 would require the use of XBRL for the largest public companies (with worldwide public float of $5 billion or higher), reporting as early as Q1 2009. The XBRL US GAAP Taxonomies would be the required data tags for those companies filing in XBRL format. The XBRL US support and maintenance program for continual review and revision to the taxonomies is designed to ensure that the dictionary of terms is always consistent with new accounting standards and that it reflects changes in common reporting practices in the marketplace. Hundreds of comments received since April 28, 2008 have been vetted and incorporated into this latest release along with new FASB pronouncements including FAS141R, FAS160, FAS161 and FAS163, among others. The public comment period provides an opportunity for stakeholders such as public company preparers, investors, financial analysts, auditors and software providers to review and comment on the taxonomy. The public comment period ends on January 15, 2009. Comments received will be reviewed and potentially incorporated, and the final dictionary of US GAAP terms will be available for use in February. To participate in the review and to learn more about XBRL, visit http://xbrl.us/usgaappublicreview
