The forthcoming GlobalSight open source Translation Management System (TMS), sponsored by Welocalize, will provide support for Clay Tablet 2.0 to enable connectivity to a wide variety of content management systems (CMS) or content repositories. This approach provides "out of the box" connectivity to a wide range of CMS' and integration possibilities with most others. GlobalSight will launch on January 5, 2009 as an open source TMS product that provides a scalable translation management platform for companies to manage, translate and deliver global content. IBM (NYSE:IBM) and Sun Microsystems, Inc. (NASDAQ:JAVA) announced the launch of the OpenDocument Format (ODF) Toolkit Union, a new open-source software community project. The ODF Toolkit will use an initial software code contribution from Sun to provide developers with an Application Programming Interface (API) for reading, writing and manipulating ODF documents. One part of the initial code contribution is an ODF Validator, a tool that validates OpenDocument files and checks certain conformance criteria. The Toolkit targets developers who want to create new applications and solutions ranging from content management, business workflows and activities to Web-based document solutions. The ODF Toolkit Union will complement other industry efforts such as the ODF standardization work done at the Organization for the Advancement of Structured Information Standards (OASIS). The ODF Toolkit open source software project is established at http://odftoolkit.org

Alfresco Launches Enterprise Edition 3.0

Alfresco Software, Inc. announced the release of Alfresco Enterprise Edition 3.0. The latest certified build adds Alfresco Share, a new collaborative content solution, a draft implementation of CMIS specification, and Microsoft Office SharePoint Protocol support to Alfresco's Enterprise Content Management (ECM) platform. Alfresco's Web 2.0 functionality enables organizations to rollout collaborative content solutions; Organizations can support virtual team collaboration for home and distributed working, as well as support initiatives for employee knowledge retention and access best practice information. Alfresco Enterprise Edition 3.0 includes Alfresco Share, which is built on Alfresco's ECM repository and delivers collaborative content management. Alfresco Share helps to simplify capturing, sharing and retrieval of information across virtual teams. http://www.alfresco.com/

Simplexo and Ingres announced a partnership aimed to change not only the way, but the speed in which people search and retrieve critical business information. Simplexo provides "single click" information retrieval, enabling companies to simultaneously and securely search both structured and unstructured data sources in real-time. By joining forces with Ingres, the real time enterprise search capability of Simplexo Enterprise will complement the Ingres IceBreaker BI Appliance, which delivers all an organization's business intelligence needs from reporting, analysis, and dashboards to complete data integration with existing systems. Alfresco Provides Draft CMIS Implementation

Alfresco Software announced the availability of the Content Management Interoperability Services (CMIS) specification draft implementation. As a contributing member of the draft technical specification, Alfresco is able to offer a draft implementation of CMIS for developers who wish to explore the draft specification. The objective of the draft CMIS specification is to deliver a common, REST or Web Services, API that can be used to develop write-once, run- anywhere, next generation content and social applications. Following the announcement of the planned submission of the CMIS specification to OASIS (Organization for the Advancement of Structured Information Standards), Alfresco has made available the following for preview: Support for the CMIS REST and Web Services bindings allowing client applications to connect to, navigate, read, and create content against the Alfresco content repository; Support for the CMIS Query Language providing SQL-like querying of the repository including location, properties, and full-text; and A CMIS Test Suite to allow compliance compatibility testing against any CMIS compliant REST Binding. In order to drive the ongoing development and discussion of the draft technical specification, Alfresco will shortly make available CMIS webinars and tutorials. http://www.alfresco.com

TWiki.net Announces TWiki version 4.2

TWIKI.NET, a provider of open source enterprise collaboration solutions, announced a new release of open source TWiki. TWiki version 4.2 software includes a new WYSIWYG editor that is easy to use and can reduce the learning curve for first time users. It also offers support for an SQL-like query language to aide the end-user in building wiki applications. This software release coincides with the open source project migration to a new Sun Fire T5220 server, a Sun Fire X4450 server and a Sun StorageTek 5320 NAS Gateway System. http://www.twiki.org/

Kentico Releases Free CMS for ASP.NET

Kentico Software released a free version of its product, Kentico CMS for ASP.NET. The Free Edition allows customers to build and manage Web sites, online stores, intranets and Web 2.0 community sites. Previously, Kentico has offered only commercial licenses of its software. The new Free Edition supports WYSIWYG editing, search engine optimization, news, blogs, RSS feeds, newsletters, forums, polls, online forms, a product catalog with shopping cart, an image gallery and many other features. It also comes bundled with three Web site templates - a corporate site, online store and personal site. Web developers can create their own web sites with custom design and they can extend the system with custom code. The Free Edition can be used for both commercial and personal sites without any license fees. It is intended primarily for smaller Web sites with up to 1000 pages and a single content editor. The users of the Free Edition are required to put the Kentico logo to the footer of their Web site. http://www.kentico.com/

Intalio Releases of Intalio|BPMS 5.2

Intalio, Inc. announced the release of Intalio|BPMS 5.2 with new features aimed at enterprise customers. The new services available in Intalio|BPMS 5.2 address enterprise requirements for monitoring and managing business activities, support for the latest industry standards, and increased stability and performance integrated on a wide array of platforms. Business Activity Monitoring (BAM) provides corporations with a unified view of their business through Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), dashboards, and reports. Including BAM within Intalio|BPMS 5.2 allows companies to define their KPIs in Intalio|BPMS 5.2 for real-time analyses of the data necessary to run core business functions. Dashboard components can be configured to track that information in easily understood data visualization tools such as charts and graphs. The reports can also be exported and shared via PDF documents and spreadsheets. Intalio|BPMS 5.2 is now certified on over 300 combinations of hardware, operating systems, application servers, and databases. Integration with other applications via web services has been simplified through automatic importing of the code that defines the service, the Web Services Definition Language (WSDL). http://www.intalio.com

Alfresco Software announced the availability of Alfresco Labs (Beta) 3. Alfresco Labs 3, formerly called Alfresco Community, offers Microsoft users greater choice by providing them with an open source fully-compatible SharePoint repository. With Alfresco Labs 3, companies can leverage existing investments in Linux and Java as well as Microsoft .NET connection software to reduce their SharePoint total cost of ownership and maximize their hardware and software investments. The Alfresco Labs 3 repository offers: Microsoft Office SharePoint protocol support requiring no additional client installation; Alfresco Surf platform for building REST-oriented web applications and collaborative web sites; RESTful API delivering content and collaboration services for customizing and developing Alfresco applications; Preview of Alfresco Share, a new social computing application; Document library which scales to over 100 million documents. Alfresco's new Surf platform is built on Alfresco Web Scripts technology, which utilizes light-weight scripting and templating. The Surf platform is designed to work in a number of different web environments, as well as a Web Part in Microsoft SharePoint Portal. It includes content oriented components designed around the Yahoo! User Interface (YUI) Library and Adobe Flash for uploads and previewing of content and other information. LoopFuse and Acquia announced the availability of the LoopFuse OneView integration module for Drupal, enabling marketing organizations to extend their LoopFuse marketing automation processes across their Drupal web sites. Taking advantage of LoopFuse's web analytics and campaign management capabilities, Drupal site owners can track activities and connect directly with customers who participate in their community- based web sites. The integration between Drupal and LoopFuse OneView will allow LoopFuse customers using Drupal for their content management system to have their web sites automatically instrumented with LoopFuse tracking - providing analytics on web site visitors without the need to modify any web site code. It will also allow for the automated capture of web site registrations within LoopFuse. This will enable marketers to assemble their web sites and integrate their marketing automation solution without relying on their IT department to develop custom applications and integrations from scratch. Acquia is a new software company offering commercial support for the open source Drupal social publishing system. Acquia is preparing for the initial launch of its distribution of Drupal, code-named "Carbon," in the second half of this year. Additionally, Acquia plans to provide a range of maintenance and support subscriptions designed to meet the requirements of organizations utilizing the Carbon distribution. http://drupal.org/project/loopfuse
