Open Text Corporation announced the acquisition of eMotion LLC from Corbis Corporation. The eMotion division will become part of Open Text's Artesia Digital Media Group. The acquisition gives Artesia a broader portfolio of offerings for marketing departments and advertising agencies, adding capabilities that complement its enterprise marketing asset management solution, Artesia DAM. The move will extend Open Text's digital media capabilities as part of its Enterprise 2.0 strategy. eMotion is headquartered in Seattle and has a team based in Virginia. Open Text purchased the division for approximately $5 million, net of cash and assets, effective July 2, 2008. Canto announced a set of updates for its Cumulus product line. First up and available for download now, Cumulus 7.5.4 offers a few minor updates and marks the end of the Cumulus 7.5 update schedule. Following shortly thereafter, Cumulus 7.6 will arrive, offering a wealth of new features and enhancements. Cumulus 7.5.4 is a free update available to all customers now using Cumulus 7.5. Most importantly, the update addresses an issue that affected a small number of customers who take advantage of the Cumulus Backup Manager. In addition, Cumulus 7.5.4 increases the performance of Cumulus Servers running in 64-bit Linux environments, and offers reliability enhancements for customers using central asset locations, or providing previews of Microsoft Office documents. Cumulus 7.6, an update available only to customers on active service contracts, will include all enhancements available in Cumulus 7.5.4, plus offer many new features and benefits requested by customers. Among those new features will be the ability to embed watermarks into images, and generate PDF previews and thumbnails without Adobe Acrobat installed, even via the Canto Web Clients. Additional features and benefits will be announced when the update ships. All customers who use the Cumulus Backup Manager should update to Cumulus 7.5.4 immediately. Customers on active service agreements who do not use the Cumulus Backup Manager can safely wait for Cumulus 7.6, if they prefer. Customers whose service agreements will soon expire (or have already expired) are encouraged to contact Canto or their Canto reseller to renew their policies in time to take advantage of the many new benefits of Cumulus 7.6. http://www.canto.com/portal
Equilibrium announced a strategic technology partnership with Extensis, a software developer that allows creative workgroups and professionals to streamline their workflow and securely manage their digital assets and fonts. In this technology partnership, Extensis will OEM Equilibrium's MediaRich Graphics engine for integration into a future release of Extensis Portfolio Server. The MediaRich engine will offer a more stable, scalable and faster solution while providing overall improved imaging capabilities from Portfolio and also add accelerated support of new file types and self service media processing capabilities in the future. Equilibrium announces the latest expansion of it's massively scalable MediaRich Media Server for images and video with the release of version 3.8.6. Added features include expanded support with the optional Audio/Video module of HD and Broadcast formats, including MXF, MPEG2, MPEG2 Transport Stream, and many more. In addition, scalable hot-folder support is included utilizing the power of MediaScript, MediaRich's flexible media manipulation scripting language based on ECMA JavaScript. A new, comprehensive Sonic Flash Zoom with Multi-Page/Frame zoom support (for PDF, EPS, PS, AI file types) is also included. ClearStory Systems, Inc. announced new ActiveMedia Software as a Service (SaaS) packages that offer hosted DAM services that cater to a marketing organization's size. ClearStory will offer three ActiveMedia-based service plans for marketing workgroups, departments, and larger enterprise organizations, starting at $100 per user per month. ActiveMedia Essentials offers basic marketing services for workgroups in small organizations of 5 to 10 users. ActiveMedia Professional supports larger marketing departments of 10 to 20 users and includes full access to ActiveMedia's standard work flow automation features. ActiveMedia Essentials and ActiveMedia Professional also provide fixed-fee deployment services and application training that ensure successful and rapid deployments. Vignette (NASDAQ: VIGN) announced it has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire Vidavee, a video Web services company that enables Web publishers to upload, share, analyze and monetize Internet video content. The strategic acquisition and integration of Vidavee's video publishing technology will provide video management and publishing capabilities. Under the terms of the agreement between Vignette and Vidavee, Vignette will pay approximately $6.6 million in cash for all outstanding shares of Vidavee. Vidavee leverages heat maps to help organizations analyze viewer interaction and enable these companies to improve impressions and drive additional revenues by taking the most popular sections of a video stream and dynamically inserting advertising and other rich content. Additional video tagging capabilities allow users to identify sections of interest from a video and share the content to increase views and attract additional users. Upon completion of the acquisition, Vignette will offer Vidavee's video publishing technologies through a Software as a Service (SaaS) model. The integration with Vignette's Digital Services Hub will provide organizations with a single unified framework for content monetization and delivery needs. Canto announced the immediate availability of Cumulus 7.5.3, a minor update that improves the performance and reliability of the entire Cumulus product line. The company says that Cumulus 7.5.3 is running on the recently released Service Pack 1 for Windows Vista, and OS X Leopard performance and reliability continues to be stable since the release of version 7.5.2, though a handful of improvements have been made to support Apple's latest OS even better. Canto recommends all customers upgrade to Cumulus 7.5.3, regardless of operating system, to benefit from global fixes and improvements. Customers on active service agreements can download the update free of charge from Canto's Customer Portal.
