Open Text Corporation, the provider of enterprise content management (ECM) software, today announced that it has expanded its solutions in the global legal market including introducing key integrations between Open Text Document Management, eDOCS Edition (eDOCS DM) and Open Text Social Workplace available this fall. First released in the summer of 2009, Open Text Social Workplace supports a team's ability to form, organize and collaborate on projects. With the release of eDOCS DM 5.3, full Windows 7 and Microsoft® Office® 2010 support and updated integrations are available. Also added in this release is new platform support for 32 and 64 Bit versions of Windows Server 2008,SQL Server 2008, and Windows Communication Foundation (WCF) support, while deployment costs are lowered through native Microsoft Windows Installer (MSI) support. eDOCS DM customers can now use the Open Text flagship records management offering with native integration, search and access from within the native eDOCS DM user interface. Records management of physical items, electronic records and email, as well as structured data from systems such as Microsoft SharePoint® 2010 and SAP are all available in this release. Support for Apple iPad is now available for WirelessDMS for eDOCS allowing users to access content from within eDOCS DM using the iPad device. http://www.opentext.com/

DotNetNuke Corp.,the Web Content Management Platform company, announced the release of the DotNetNuke Enterprise Edition. The Enterprise Edition includes the new DotNetNuke Content Staging feature that allows users to edit and approve content on a staging server prior to pushing the site to production. In addition, the DotNetNuke Web CMS includes a Content Localization feature that enables management of multi-language web sites. The Content Localization feature is included in all Editions of the platform including the Enterprise, Professional and Community Editions. Exclusive to the Enterprise Edition, Content Staging allows users to create a separate staging server where all intended production web site changes can be implemented and tested before being published publicly. It has features for organizations with many content contributors and tight restrictions on web site content publishing and review. The system will compare the staging server configuration to the production server and identify missing components and provides a detailed view of all planned changes. Other features include: An audit tool that creates a record of all publishing events; A “white list” in which users can define which modules should push both their settings and content during publishing and which should push only the module settings; A secure publishing function which allows users to easily push their site from staging to production. All Editions of DotNetNuke including the Enterprise, Professional and Community Editions, now feature a new Content Localization capability that helps users manage translated versions of their web pages. This feature includes management and configuration-mapping tools to keep translated pages synchronized across a web site. With the introduction of the Enterprise Edition, DotNetNuke will no longer offer the Elite Edition, which will now comprise the Professional Edition plus Elite Support. The new Elite Support option – available for the Professional and Enterprise Editions – features extended support hours, faster guaranteed support, priority management of support tickets, installation upgrade assistance, and source code access to the proprietary Professional or Enterprise Edition modules. http://www.dotnetnuke.com

Datacap is a provider of software that enables organizations to transform the way they capture, manage and automate the flow of business information to improve business processes, reduce paper costs or manual errors and meet compliance mandates. Financial terms were not disclosed. The acquisition strengthens IBM's ability to help organizations digitize, manage and automate their information assets, particularly in paper-intensive industries such as healthcare, insurance, government and finance. Additionally, regulations such as HIPAA and Sarbanes-Oxley have demanded new standards and now legislation is encouraging the adoption of new records management solutions, including scanning and capture to increase accuracy, lower costs and speed business processes to meet these regulations. http://ibm.com http://www.datacap.com/

LinkedIn officials said the technology would be used to recommend content, such as news, messages and what executives in similar jobs are reading and doing, to LinkedIn customers. Terms of the Mspoke deal were not disclosed. LinkedIn was launched in 2003, not long after social networking sites like Friendster and MySpace, and before the now-dominant Facebook. While smaller than any of those sites, LinkedIn has been operating cash flow positive over two years, thanks to features like premium subscriptions and enterprise licensing, as well as ad sales. The company is said to be readying an initial public offering. The Mspoke purchase is part of a strategy to get consumers to spend more inside LinkedIn, making it more about career development and work-related information, as opposed to just using it as a job search tool. http://www.linkedin.com http://www.mspoke.com/

Harvard University has rolled out the latest release of OpenScholar, an open-source web content management (WCM) program geared for the academic community. OpenScholar's aim is to make building and customizing Web sites simple and straightforward for academics who aren't necessarily tech-savvy. There are currently two versions of the software: one for scholars to create a personal Web site and one for researchers to build a project Web site. Though faculty members often have Web sites created for them by their department's staff, OpenScholar was created to help academics make (and manage) their own Web sites by automating processes. Once installed researchers can register online to create their own Web site, selecting the features they want from OpenScholar's menu of options, which is tailored for professors. For faculty who are building personal Web sites, the available plug-ins include pages that display their curriculum vitae, a list of courses they teach, and a list of publications that can be downloaded. The software's project version offers similar options, such as pages for publications, presentations, and a list of people who are part of the research team. OpenScholar began as a Harvard-only project in May 2009, but because the feedback was so positive, the software was made open-source and available universally through Drupal. Since OpenScholar's first release last fall, OpenScholar has received tweaks based on comments from the Drupal community and the ~200 members at Harvard who tried/use it. The project team is also planning to release a version of the software for departments in the fall. http://openscholar.harvard.edu

KickApps Corporation announced a major upgrade to its social software development suite that provides Web publishers the ability to manage their website content and social experiences under a single, unified content management system. KickApps 5.0 is claiming the title of being a Social CMS (sCMS) platform, designed to create and manage entire websites with integrated social functionality. With the ability to manage all their assets under a single system, publishers avoid the interoperability and resource issues associated with managing multiple point solutions for CMS, social and video capabilities. KickApps’ Social CMS capabilities help publishers to extend their content beyond their websites to branded experiences on web-based platforms like Facebook and mobile devices like the iPhone, iPad and Android. KickApps 5.0 is designed to help web publishers manage their entire world of online content, wherever it exists. A key new feature of KickApps 5.0 is the ability to deploy an unlimited number of custom web pages that are optimized for social interaction (e.g. comments, tags, ratings, sharing). These new page experiences can incorporate user-generated or editorial content in many different formats, from external or internal sources, and can be launched in seconds. KickApps 5.0 also adds an array of fully integrated applications including Pro Video which features optimized uploads, content curation, advanced set creation, new delivery options, unique monetization capabilities and iDevice support. KickApps 5.0 continues to integrate with other CMS products when required. http://www.kickapps.com/

There is integrated support for working with Microsoft Office for tasks such as exporting data to Excel without having to write code. While developing your application, you can modify the application as it runs. LightSwitch creates Silverlight applications that can run in the browser, out-of-the-browser, or in the cloud. When your application grows, you can use Visual Studio 2010 Professional, Premium or Ultimate to extend and customize it further. The first beta of LightSwitch will be available broadly on August 23rd, 2010. http://www.microsoft.com
