Nuxeo, the Open Source Enterprise Content Management (ECM) company, announced an update to its Nuxeo Digital Asset Management product with the release of Nuxeo DAM 1.1, as well launching the hosted version, Nuxeo DAM - Cloud Edition. This new release of Nuxeo DAM incorporates feature enhancements driven by early adopters and the Nuxeo developer community. Nuxeo DAM - Cloud Edition runs on the Nuxeo secure cloud services infrastructure, backed by Amazon web services. Nuxeo DAM - Cloud Edition offers a media management solution suited to small to medium-sized organizations with fixed budgets and limited IT infrastructure and resources. It is also ideal for businesses that need to collaborate with geographically dispersed customers, helping marketers and brand managers quickly catalog, process, store, retrieve and distribute rich media. Also launched today is Nuxeo DAM 1.1. The newest release of Nuxeo DAM includes feature enhancements driven by the feedback and requirements of early adopters: video enhancements, batch upload improvements and repository level integration with Nuxeo DM. Video enhancements include automatic generation of thumbnails that segment the content of a video file as part of the import process. These video chapters can be viewed individually, to locate scenes and find video segments to share among teams. The application gives instant viewing access to a video by beginning to play before the file is completely downloaded. New bulk import and editing functionality are additional time-savers for power-users. Nuxeo DAM can now import a larger number of files, with IPTC and EXIF metadata extraction and bulk tagging to speed up capture of digital assets. To ease large-scale media file processing, Nuxeo DAM also allows users to edit file descriptions, define metadata and adjust settings to a selection of multiple assets, putting more capabilities into the hands of content creators and consumers. For integration with other content applications, Nuxeo DAM and Nuxeo's Document Management applications can also share the same underlying content repository. Nuxeo's applications are built on the open source, Java-based Nuxeo Enterprise Platform, so that Nuxeo DAM can now be connected to a Nuxeo Document Management application or other Nuxeo EP-based application. Documents and files managed in a Nuxeo DM repository can be accessed from Nuxeo DAM without switching applications - or vice versa. http://www.nuxeo.com/

XBRL US, the non-profit consortium for XML business reporting, has released a second version of its XBRL Consistency Suite with improved functionality and additional checks that now cover detailed footnote tagging. The new version also now provides a way to compare the 2009 Taxonomy Release to the 2011 Pre-release of the US GAAP Financial Reporting Taxonomy, recently published by the Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB). The XBRL Consistency Suite has three primary functions: it runs automated checks that help public company preparers test their XBRL documents for problems that may occur related to the use of the US GAAP Taxonomy, such as missing concepts, incorrect signs and concepts used incorrectly; it enables quick and easy peer analysis to help companies identify extensions created and concepts used by other companies within their industry; and allows preparers to compare one taxonomy release to another to streamline the XBRL preparation process. The new release features: 60% more checks that now cover detailed footnote tags in addition to the face financials; detailed information on extensions created by peer companies including name, presentation label, definition, and even presentation and calculation hierarchies that preparers can leverage in their own creation process; ability to compare disclosure notes between multiple companies; and an advanced filter for more complex searching on data in XBRL submissions. The checks were developed by the same team that developed the US GAAP Taxonomy based on their experience in developing the taxonomy and in conducting a thorough and ongoing review of XBRL submissions received into the SEC's EDGAR database. http://xbrl.us/

Canto Software announced the availability of an update to the Cumulus product line that includes significant feature additions to Cumulus Sites, the company’s browser-based Web publishing and file sharing tool. New to Cumulus Sites is an option that sends email links that enable users to download requested files at later times so they can close browser windows without having to wait for large-file downloads to complete. Collection links can now be viewed, edited and reused, so users can see which settings were used, and more quickly re-share files. Embargo dates can ensure shared files are not available until specified times, and new social media sharing options make it easier to post files to Facebook, Flickr, Twitter and 12 other social networks. Flash movies and MP3 files can now be streamed from within Sites, and PDF files can be previewed at full resolution without additional plug-ins or software. An in-browser slideshow feature has been added as well. New Sites interface design flexibility means administrators can disable the filters and category views, show files as lists, choose mouse-click behavior, show file info as tooltips, and more. New to the Cumulus Native Client is an option that enables users to create and email collection links—a feature previously available only in Sites. This enables users to take advantage of Sites’ file sharing while working inside the Native Client. Support for InDesign CS5 has been added so that Cumulus systems that include InDesign Extended Pack functionality can now parse InDesign files without the need for “tag” files. In addition, referenced images and extracted document text are now associated inside Cumulus with the layout page on which they appear. One can now find an individual InDesign page by choosing an image used on the page, or by searching for text the page contains. It’s also now easier to quickly see all images on a selected InDesign page. Simply DITA is a specialized implementation of Content Mapper, Simply XML’s Microsoft Word to XML authoring platform. With Simply DITA, both casual authors and technical writers can use Microsoft Word to adopt the DITA standard. The user interface is straight forward with a series of ribbon-based menus that are integrated with the Microsoft Word 2007 interface. Users can create DITA Topics, DITA Tasks, DITA Concepts, DITA References, and DITA Maps – key components of the DITA standard. The Simply DITA document structure uses a streamlined set of the DITA elements that remove complexities not needed by about 95% of potential DITA authors. Simply DITA complements more technical XML authoring tools like XMetal, Structured FrameMaker, and Arbortext Editor that may be required by authors writing very technical content. Documents created with Simply DITA can be opened and edited using these XML tools and passed seamlessly back to authors working in Microsoft Word. Saving content as valid DITA in XML permits the enterprise to take advantage of XML, but the Microsoft Word-based author never has to see or understand the XML. Simply DITA enables multi-channel publishing through full integration with the DITA Open Tool Kit. The tool includes a personal content repository and supports integration with SharePoint or other Content Management Systems (CMS) for advanced content storage and workflow management. Authors can easily add metadata to their content from within Microsoft Word and search for content through locally controlled metadata, or metadata standards adopted by the enterprise. Simply DITA also supports efficient direct or batch import of structured legacy documents. Simply DITA is supported by an optional instructor-led, Web-based learning program to teach authors how to construct high-performance content under the DITA standard. Unlike other DITA training programs, the Simply DITA training programdoesn’t need to teach authors the technical complexities of understanding and using XML markup code. Since the Simply DITA software takes care of the XML markup behind the scenes, the training can focus on bigger-picture concepts and how to write reusable content that enhances reader productivity and meets the DITA requirements. http://www.simplyxml.com/

CubicleSoft has announced the release of Barebones CMS 1.0. Barebones CMS is an open source content management system (CMS) for web developers operating in a team environment. Barebones CMS features: A caching system that does not get in the way of designing a site; performance page serving (up to 1,700 pages per second during tests); Multilingual support system to allow translators to communicate with the team, and more. This product is designed to create an entire website without ever leaving the web browser: Programmers can write PHP code, designers can create and edit layouts using HTML and CSS, and Content Editors can edit content in the browser. Barebones CMS does not need FTP clients and external text editors. Barebones CMS is an open source product dual-licensed under both the MIT and LGPL licenses and is therefore free for both personal and commercial use. Financial donations to the project go toward future development. http://barebonescms.com/
