Access Innovations, Inc. has announced the release of Data Harmony 3.7, the latest version of their data management software suite. The suite contains taxonomy management, automatic categorization, and metadata management tools and incorporates user-suggested upgrades that enhance the software’s functionality and features. The user documentation is also fully revised and updated. All modules of the new version of Data Harmony – Thesaurus Master, M.A.I. (Machine Aided Indexer*) and XIS (XML Intranet System) – are Unicode UTF-8. Therefore, they support all languages, all character sets, and integrated multi-lingual applications. They also support scientific nomenclature without a need for special coding or character entification. Unicode allows the user to choose the language desired for the interface to appear for interaction. The commands can be mapped to the language and character set of the user’s choice. A new filter in the Import Module identifies and converts characters whose encoding doesn’t conform to the UTF-8 standard, and the exports maintain the UTF-8 encoding to ensure appropriate display and successful use in receiving applications. Users can view several different languages and character sets (such as in a combined Chinese, Russian and English thesaurus) simultaneously. Additional export formats support content management systems that have special formatting requirements such as Ektron, NorthPlains, Clearspace (SAP) and Alfresco.  This expands the options from the SKOS, Zthes, OWL, HTML, MARC, CSV, comma delimited,  several XML, and other options already included. http://www.accessinn.com/

Alchemy Software Development Limited, a provider of visual localization solutions, announced the release of Alchemy PUBLISHER 3.0, a visual localization technology that provides advanced Translation Management (TM) for documentation. Alchemy PUBLISHER 3.0 supports various aspects of localization workflow, from translation, to engineering, testing and project management. Additionally, since Alchemy’s TM technology also re-uses layout information, this should also assist Desktop Publishing processes. Alchemy PUBLISHER hides the complexity of Framemaker, InDesign and QuarkXPress documents, presenting text for translation in visual editing environments. This enables the translator to focus on the accuracy and precision of their translations. Alchemy PUBLISHER 3.0 supports industry standard documentation formats, such as, Adobe Framemaker, Adobe InDesign, QuarkXPress, MS Word, XML, SGML, RTF, DOCX. It can re-use translation memory so that clients migrating to the latest version can re-use previous translation investments. It also provides a Machine Translation connector so that documentation formats can be MT’ed. http://www.alchemysoftware.ie

Microsoft has announced it will be releasing a new version of Office Mobile. Like regular Office 2010, many new features are collaboration oriented. The Office Mobile suite will be available in June through Microsoft's Windows Marketplace for Mobile. It will run on phones based on Microsoft's Windows Mobile 6.5 operating system. Formatting details such as tables and charts will now show up on the mobile documents, so they look similar to the full-sized originals. Microsoft also updated the clipboard in Office Mobile to make copying and pasting text faster. Phones equipped with Office Mobile 2010 will also be able to multi-task as presentation aids. During a PowerPoint presentation, they can be connected to computers via Bluetooth and used to advance slides. A feature called Conversation View has been implemented to manage inboxes by grouping related messages so conversations can be flagged or deleted. Microsoft says it has improved support for touch gestures including drags and flicks. Office Mobile 2010 will work on devices that lack touch screens, but with limited functionality. Non-Windows phones won't have direct access to the new Office Mobile features, but will be able to view Word, Excel and PowerPoint documents through a mobile browser-based viewer. In a few months, Office Mobile 2010 will be updated for compatibility with Microsoft's forthcoming Windows Phone 7 operating system. http://www.microsoft.com

Justin Klein Keane, an independant researcher, has uncovered a potential security vulnerability in the White House website, as well as many other Drupal-based sites. The cross-site scripting (XSS) bug can be found in the Drupal Context module, a widely used plug-in that Whitehouse.gov uses to manage how content is viewed on their site. According to the researcher, the flaw allows attackers to inject malicious scripts into login pages that can reset the site's administrative password. This discovery is important as it comes less than three weeks after the White House released a plug-in of its own which requires use of the vulnerable module. Officials within the Drupal project said the bug can only be exploited by those who already have lower-level administrative privileges to the server. Also, a vulnerable page would then have to be set up to allow the attacker to create "blocks" (Drupal widgets or other content). http://www.theregister.co.uk/2010/05/10/drupal_security_bug/

OmniUpdate, Inc., a web content management system provider for higher education, released version 9 of its OU Campus CMS. Web developers are the primary beneficiary of this new release, as there are no user interface (UI) modifications affecting end-users. The development goal for version 9 was to replace Xalan (XSLT 1.0) with Saxon 9 (XSLT 2.0), thereby establishing the platform for several new feature releases expected throughout 2010 and beyond. A database abstraction was also added to support the use of MySQL and other databases, in addition to Microsoft SQL Server and Sybase ASE. The move to XSLT 2.0 provides web developers with a true programming language with typed variables and user-defined functions. It offers more than twice the functions and operators available in XSLT 1.0. Additional efficiencies, provided in the declarative language, also offer web developers a significant reduction of code, thus allowing for faster processing speed. New features include Snippets (pre-defined and formatted code sets) that users can add to pages in the WYSIWYG editor, as well as Final Check, which enforces spell checking, link checking, and W3C compliance testing prior to page publishing. Image Thumbnails, Auto Draft, Save-in-Place, and Source Editor Word Wrap are also part of the release. www.omniupdate.com

XMLSpy 2010r3 – With the release of v2010r3, the XMLSpy XML editor adds usability enhancements to its graphical schema editor, including the ability to validate internal naming and coding conventions. The XMLSpy graphical schema editor allows schema designers to validate naming and coding conventions outside of the capabilities of the XML Schema standard. This new functionality is of importance for users working with NIEM, a U.S. Government XML-based standard, when implementing their information sharing exchanges. Another new feature in XMLSpy 2010r3 is support for creating user-defined sample values for XML instance generation. Users can now add arbitrary sample data to their XML instance generations allowing them to control the sample data that is published. XMLSpy 2010r3 also integrates with Visual Studio 2010, adding to its existing support for VS 2005 and VS 2008. MapForce 2010r3 – New usability enhancements have been added to MapForce 2010r3 for generating C++ code, as well as working with XML, Excel 2007+, and EDI. MapForce 2010r3 is now also able to generate C++ build configurations for 64-bit applications. For SAP users, the latest release of MapForce provides support for mapping data based on SAP’s IDoc EDI format. Another new feature in v2010r3 is support for the xsi:nil attribute in XML Schema. Adopted by Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs (HMRC), which provides XBRL oversight in the United Kingdom, the iXBRL standard embeds XBRL fragments into a HTML document so that the same source can be used for both human and machine processing. With support for iXBRL, StyleVision 2010r3 can generate iXBRL reports based on XBRL instance files. Users can also select from formatting options to ensure reports are displayed correctly. For both StyleVision and Authentic users, v2010r3 supports the creation of Global Templates for elements. UModel 2010r3 – full-featured UML 2 tool with support for C# 4.0, the latest version of the C# programming language, for both generating code in C# 4.0 projects and reverse engineering C# 4.0 code to create UML models. Open Text Corporation, a provider of Enterprise Content Management (ECM) software, announced Rights Management Services (RMS) for the Open Text ECM Suite designed to safeguard confidential and sensitive information from unauthorized uses even after it leaves the content repository. Though the content may be stored in a secure repository, once users have the right to read a document and save it on their local drives, the content becomes vulnerable. Open Text Rights Management Services lets organizations augment their strategies with protection that remains with the content. Rights Management Services works by enforcing content protection constraints for documents and other content based on rules such as "do not email," "do not print" or "do not save locally." The application then encrypts the content and the publishing license together. The content and rights remain encrypted during transport, extending security to wherever the content travels. When a recipient opens rights-protected content, a request goes to a rights management server to validate the user's credentials and usage rights. Round-trip scenarios are also supported allowing editing and uploading of new versions that retain the rights management constraints. As a shared service in the ECM Suite, Rights Management Services are also available to any content application in the organization. Protection spans Microsoft Office 2003 and 2007 applications as well as PDF, HTML, engineering drawing file formats, image files, ZIP, archives among others. Users can also read and protect content viewed on BlackBerry smartphones. The Open Text RMS solution takes advantage of the Active Directory Rights Management Service from Microsoft. Open Text is also partnering with both GigaTrust and Liquid Machines, to add support for specialty content types such as computer-aided design (CAD) files, Visio, Adobe PDF, graphic files, and many other file formats, plus rights management support for documents available via BlackBerry devices. Open Text Rights Management Services for the Open Text ECM Suite is available now. Partner offerings are also available now directly through the partners. http://www.opentext.com http://www.gigatrust.com http://www.liquidmachines.com/

(MEI), an Adobe development partner and provider of software solutions for the publishing industry, announced that Version 6.2 of the vjoon K4 Cross-Media Publishing Platform is now available. This latest K4 release is fully compatible with Adobe Creative Suite 5 with new features that boost its capabilities as a multi-channel workflow management system. German developer vjoon has tuned K4 to integrate with the latest update to Adobe’s preeminent software package. K4 facilitates the production of content not just for print and Web but also for portable devices including the Apple iPad, Amazon Kindle, Google Android platforms and more. In addition to CS5 support, K4 6.2 includes several updates for improved collaboration and output. K4’s “sticky notes” feature provides instant messaging directly on InDesign layouts, allowing real-time communication among any users with access to the document. In K4 6.2, sticky notes also work with the browser-based K4 Overview Advanced, for non-client users to participate in the “live chat” and request changes to layouts from previews. Another new feature in K4 Overview Advanced is “prediction mode,” which displays previews of how layouts would appear with all objects updated. K4 6.2 also enhances the ability to manage alternative layout designs with the ability to preview different layout options in parallel, with changes to source articles and photos updated on all of the layout designs from the database. In K4, the task-based architecture adapts articles, layouts and more to meet the demands of specific media as those objects move through different workflows. The K4 Cross-Media Publishing Platform Version 6.2 is available now from MEI. All K4 customers on active maintenance agreements are eligible to receive free upgrades. http://www.maned.com

Media Lab Inc., a provider of Photoshop plug-in website creation technologies, announced an integration partnership with PageLime's permissions-based content management system (CMS) to complement its own SiteGrinder 3 Control add-on. PageLime is a cloud-based CMS which gives website designer/developers a method for their clients to manage the content on their websites. PageLime, like SiteGrinder, requires no programing knowledge. The SiteGrinder 3 Control add-on and the PageLime CMS provide a solution for both the designer/developer and the website owner. The SiteGrinder 3 Control add-on CMS allows the website designer/developer to change site content remotely including page additions, text, images and galleries from any web browser, all without returning to Photoshop. The PageLime CMS provides owners of SiteGrinder 3 generated websites with a method for changing only approved items on the website through a permission based system. SiteGrinder 3 allows graphic designers, photographers, or artists to transform their Photoshop designs into CSS and XHTML standards-compliant websites without writing code. http://www.medialab.com http://pagelime.com/

IBM announced it has acquired Cast Iron Systems to broaden the delivery of cloud computing services for clients.  Cast Iron Systems, a privately held company based in Mountain View, CA, delivers cloud integration software, appliances and services. The acquisition expands IBM’s business process and integration software portfolio, which grew more than 20 percent in the first quarter of 2010. Through Cast Iron Systems, IBM is gaining the ability (and experience) to help businesses integrate their cloud-based applications and on-premise systems.  The acquisition also advances IBM’s capabilities for a hybrid cloud model, which is attractive to enterprises because it allows them to blend data from on-premise applications with public and private cloud systems. IBM will continue to support and enhance Cast Iron Systems’ technologies and clients while allowing them to take advantage of the IBM portfolio.  Cast Iron Systems’ approximately 75 employees will be integrated into IBM. http://www.ibm.com http://www.castiron.com/
