VYRE Ltd announced the release of VYRE Unify: Version 4.5, a new version of VYRE’s content management platform. This release delivers the latest Portlet Standards 2.0, WebDAV support, a drag and drop Adobe Air upload tool and performance improvements, including additional caching and improved LDAP support. VYRE Unify 4.5 now implements the Java Portlet 2.0 specification (JSR-286). This allows users to run portlets built to the Portlet 2.0 specification. The JSR 286 standard brings to the Java portlets all the key inter-portlet communication capabilities introduced by Web Services for Remote Portlets 2.0 (WSRP 2.0.) Version 4.5 performance improvements are achieved through the addition of a number of caching layers at various points in the product. The creation and use of a new custom XML generation engine in place of templates, as well as the caching of sections of generated XML has improved the overall speed of generating XML. VYRE Unify 4.5 introduces the concept of “Script bundles” and “CSS bundles”, which also improve performance, allowing a number of files of the same type to be deployed as a combined file. VYRE Unify version 4.5 includes a new Adobe Air upload application. The uploader allows users to bulk upload files from a local machine to a file repository managed by a VYRE Unify instance. The uploader includes support for drag and drop, file selection, and assigning metadata to each file before upload. Version 4.5 provides a feature for comparing files with previous versions of themselves; these include CSS, scripts, XSL, and template files. This allows website managers to see at a glance what changes have been made to the site. VYRE’s latest version release introduces WebDAV support and provides improved LDAP support for large user databases. http://www.vyre.com

CrownPeak announced the launch of its Online Marketing Management Suite, with content management and marketing tools designed to enable online marketers to more easily and effectively engage target audiences. The completely new Suite of tools empowers business managers to test, target and measure content relevance in Web sites, landing pages, banner ads, mobile devices, social media and other online channels. Also introduced within the new Suite are new form building tools to make it easier for CrownPeak customers to create any type of data collection form, and use that data for content targeting purposes. Canto announced the release of Canto Cumulus 8.1, built upon the Cumulus 8 system architecture first introduced last May. Among the new capabilities are a standalone version of the Cumulus Client, which is designed to enable users to create and work on local catalogs, connect to Cumulus Server catalogs, and update assets and metadata between the two. This was designed for traveling professionals to work with catalogs even when Internet access isn't available. New report types include assets cataloged during a period, check-out "time spent" reports, asset inventories by format, and the ability to use search queries as the means for selecting report assets. Reports can now be saved to PDF format and automatically emailed. A new image comparison mode makes even subtle differences between images clear. Asset cataloging starts up faster, and a bulk editor offers users an "apply to all" option when adding metadata to cataloged assets. Users can create asset "placeholders" for assets in production, with the purpose of adding metadata and track production before an asset is ready to catalog. Sorting improvements can display the pages of PDFs, layouts, presentations etc. by page number, regardless of the primary sort field. A secondary sort order is now available, and algorithm changes speed sorting operations and ensure all field types sort as expected. Catalog back-up reports and system log (syslog) messages generated by Cumulus can each be emailed automatically. Added support for Microsoft's Failover Cluster technology offers protection for Cumulus Servers running on Windows Server 2008. The Cumulus Web Client (formerly Internet Client Pro) has been updated for Cumulus 8.1. A retooling of Canto's Web publishing technology is scheduled for release early next year. Cumulus 8.1 will be available for download the first week of December. http://www.canto.com

SCHEMA announced Version 3 of SCHEMA ST4. The new version features unified presentation of technical documentation, a new product information management (PIM) module, and more flexibility for the layout of text and graphical elements. In addition, this XML-based editing and content management system now offers extended reporting functionality to uncover hidden potential for content reuse. The  automated conversion of graphics is another option that has been added to the extended features of the new SCHEMA ST4. The software now supports the new EPUB format for the easy display of documentation on mobile devices. SCHEMA GmbH has integrated an interactive designer in the new version of SCHEMA ST4, allowing for the creation of a consistent layout for all target formats. The user defines how text elements will be presented, selecting font type and size, and formatting. This information will be reused for all publications, whether for print, online or PDF formats. Version 3 of SCHEMA ST4 also features rule-based conversion of high-quality graphics to standardized sizes. In addition, graphics that are already stored in the editing and content management system can be converted in batches. The user defines for these graphics what size, resolution and format the online, print or electronic versions should have. When generating the publication, SCHEMA ST4 uses these settings for all graphics. SCHEMA ST4 now has its own PIM module. This allows product data, e.g. technical ratings or prices, to be maintained and used directly in documentation. Alternatively, the product data can be imported into the editing system from an ERP system via an interface (e.g. the standardized DPC connector from SAP). The data is hierarchically structured by attributes or characteristics in SCHEMA ST4. For example, one structure might contain all machines belonging to one group, including their model ranges. Each product can have different attributes or characteristics that can be inherited by subordinate groups. For product data classification, various classification systems are available.
