DataDirect Technologies announced release 3.2 of its DataDirect XML Converters product which features expanded EDI support to include the Edig@s standard communication protocol developed by European gas distributors. As a result, participating suppliers, shippers and gas transporters have a simpler and more productive tool to exchange vast amounts of dispatch and operational information without making drastic changes to their IT systems. Edig@s is a 15-member organisation comprised of gas supply companies throughout Europe who sought to establish a standard way for sending and receiving operational data and messages between dispatching centres. In order to rationalise the number of message variants and create a more efficient and flexible way of exchanging business-critical information, the members developed a set of message protocols based on the EDIFACT international standard for administration, commerce and transport. The DataDirect XML Converters product delivers bi-directional, highly-scalable software that efficiently streams EDI, flat files or other legacy data formats as XML, making data accessible to virtually any application. The Java and .NET components can convert legacy data formats into XML and back without a major re-architecting of the Edig@s members' applications. DataDirect Technologies sees many examples of organisations wishing to communicate information to newer distributed systems using message formats such as XML, only to find that EDI persists as a common standard for exchanging data among trading partners. The DataDirect XML Converters product provides a 'best of both worlds' solution which shields an organisation from making a choice between XML and EDI. http://www.datadirect.com

The new 4.0 release containsmany new features such as, Clustering support, OKS can now be deployed in a cluster. Changes to the topic maps are automatically synchronized across the cluster guaranteeing data consistency across the entire cluster. This makes it easier to scale OKS applications. Support for XTM 2.0 import and export. Complete TMDM support: The Topic Maps engine and the tolog query language has been extended to provide full support for "ISO 13250-2: Topic Maps - Data Model". The changes include support for data types, null-value constraints and built-in support for reification. Support for large data content. Together with the support for data types on variants and occurrences this allows the developer to store data of any kind and any size inside the topic map. This includes support for images, audio and video. Ontopoly has been reimplemented on top of the Apache Wicket web framework. This means that it is component based, making it very extensible and easier to integrate into other web applications. The new version is much more interactive as it uses AJAX technology to update parts of the user-interface dynamically instead of rerendering the page on every change. Ontopoly has been extended to include an HTML editor component and support for uploading and displaying images. DB2TM now supports arbitrary data types. The Java APIs have been through an overhaul in context of the support for TMDM and the removal of old deprecated features. Some of these changes are not backwards compatible, and applications using the Java API directly must be recompiled before deploying with OKS 4.0. The modifications needed are relatively small, but they should provide the developer with better runtime safety resulting in fewer bugs. Applications using tolog or the JSP tag libraries should continue to work as before. OKS 4.0 now requires Java 1.4 or newer.
