IBM Unveils New Search Dashboard for Lotus Domino and WebSphere Portal Environments

IBM (NYSE: IBM) introduced enhanced enterprise search software designed to allow users to quickly and securely search intranet portals, databases, public Web sites and file systems. The new version of IBM's OmniFind Enterprise Edition search software provides a single interface for enterprise search, discovery and analysis for IBM Lotus Domino environments. The new software also delivers a view into the rich content that can be exposed when the Lotus software platform is mined from an enterprise search interface. Also announced are new security and search capabilities for WebSphere clients. By providing full-text indexing and search of Domino databases, users can find and access information stored in IBM Lotus Document Manager, IBM Lotus Quickr and in IBM Lotus QuickPlace documents, as well as other enterprise information from applications, repositories and shared files from across an organization. New "Web 2.0" features in the OmniFind Enterprise Edition administrative console make it easier to customize the search application and preview changes immediately. The new version of IBM OmniFind Enterprise Edition optimized for Lotus Domino and WebSphere Portal supports Lotus Domino on Linux, Windows, and System i platforms. Vivisimo Supports Windows Search Technologies

Vivisimo announced the expansion of its Velocity platform with support for Windows Search technologies, including the integrated desktop search capabilities in Windows Vista and Windows Desktop Search 3.01 for Windows XP. Users on the Vivisimo Velocity enterprise search platform can seamlessly access and manipulate search results across Windows desktop environments as well as multiple applications and databases. Basis Technology Delivers Entity Extraction to Microsoft Live Search

Basis Technology announced that Microsoft has licensed its Rosette Entity Extractor (REX) to enhance the user experience on Microsoft Live Search by adding news results to specific user queries. REX helps organizations use information locked in unstructured data that cannot be found through keyword matching. Advanced statistical algorithms enable discovery of entities like names, places, dates, and other phrases that establish the real meaning in text. Live Search processes web documents through REX to create a list of "names in the news." When user’s queries match this list, Live Search knows it could be related to the news and adds news to the results display. Microsoft has been using Basis Technology’s linguistic software since the launch of MSN Search beta in late 2004. Mediasurface to Acquire Immediacy

Mediasurface plc announced its intention to acquire Immediacy Limited (“Immediacy”) for an initial consideration of approximately £5 million plus deferred consideration of £0.80 per pound of net assets in excess of £370,000. The acquisition is intended to: broaden the Mediasurface product portfolio with the addition of a successful mid-range content management technology and customer base, and bea complementary solution that targets a segment of the web content management market that is not currently addressed by Mediasurface; add transferable technological skills, provide greater sales opportunities, both by enabling Mediasurface to address a wider market and by promoting Immediacy in new geographies in which Mediasurface is already established; and increased profile and critical mass to better compete in the content management market. The Placing by KBC Peel Hunt will raise approximately £4.45 million in addition to a £2 million term loan facility which the Company has secured. These proceeds will be used to fund the cash element of the initial consideration, defray the costs of the Placing and the Acquisition and strengthen the balance sheet. Under the terms of the Placing Agreement, KBC Peel Hunt has agreed to use its reasonable endeavours to procure subscribers for the Placing Shares at 23 pence per share. Adobe Delivers New Document Generation Solutions

Adobe Systems Incorporated (Nasdaq:ADBE) announced new document generation solutions in Adobe LiveCycle Enterprise Suite (ES) software. LiveCycle ES enables organizations to adopt a common design environment for document production and distribution that spans interactive, on-demand, and batch generation requirements. The new document generation solutions, Adobe LiveCycle Production Print ES and LiveCycle Output ES, merge enterprise data with LiveCycle Designer ES templates to deliver personalized documents. LiveCycle Production Print ES addresses high-volume and production output requirements, while LiveCycle Output ES is best suited for on-demand or medium-volume applications. With these new capabilities, LiveCycle ES integrates document generation with electronic forms, process management, and document security to build business processes that extend from the initial request to the final archived document. LiveCycle Production Print ES, the result of a collaboration between Adobe and StreamServe, integrates LiveCycle Designer software with an updated version of StreamServe's Persuasion software to streamline the production of documents such as bank statements and stock price notifications. Xerox Launches New Linguistic Search Tool - FactSpotter

Researchers at Xerox Corporation (NYSE: XRX) unveiled FactSpotter. The new text mining software combines a linguistic engine with an interface that anyone can use to query the system in everyday language. FactSpotter looks not only for the keywords contained in a query but also the context of the document those words contain. The “smart” search engine can comb through almost any document regardless of the language, location, format or type; take advantage of the way humans think, speak and ask questions; and discriminate the results highlighting just a handful of relevant answers instead of returning thousands of unrelated responses. FactSpotter is part of Xerox’s ongoing intelligent document technology research. The technology is meant to help customers better manage data and document-intensive work processes in industries like banking, finance and legal. Zoho Meeting Beta Open to Public

Zoho announced Zoho Meeting, a Web conferencing application. Now in public beta release, Zoho Meeting lets users conduct free online meetings and share their desktops with other users. In addition to conducting live meetings with friends or colleagues, Zoho Meeting users can demonstrate products to prospective customers or troubleshoot client issues online.
