      There is a lot more to choosing a web content management system than you might think, as you know if you have been through the process before. But even if you are going through the process a second or third time, you will want to get caught up on how much has changed in terms of the players and the technology. This workshop is a great way to get up-to-speed the day before our main conference, and before you visit the major WCM vendors in the technology demonstration area.

Selecting a CMS is not like your typical software selection. Unlike other software categories, the CMS marketplace has no clear winners and there are hundreds of viable solutions. You have options of commercially licensed software, software as a service, and open source software and the systems themselves are all highly configurable frameworks so it is difficult to tell what is an aspect of platform and what is an aspect of the demo. There is no one size fits all solution because your content is tightly bound to business processes and structures that are unique to your organization. Unlike accounting and other operational aspects of your business, there are few industry-accepted standards for managing web content. Maybe the problem with the system you are replacing is not the technology but how you are using it. Selecting a CMS is hard but it is not impossible. In this session Seth Gottlieb will offer pragmatic advice for conducting an effective CMS selection and will walk through a process to help you to:

    * Analyze your requirements to the optimal level of detail
    * Understand what you need in a software supplier
    * Evaluate potential solutions
    * Know what to expect through implementation and beyond

&lt;em&gt;Cambridge, MA, Sept 16&lt;/em&gt; - Gilbane Group, Inc., the analyst and consulting firm focused on content technologies and their application to high-value business solutions, today released the industry's first reliable picture of enterprise rights management adoption in its new study, &lt;em&gt;Enterprise Rights Management: Business Imperatives and Implementation Readiness.&lt;/em&gt; The growth in the number of companies adopting or planning to adopt means that for the first time, enough data exists to produce a study that is meaningful for users and vendors alike. As a result, Gilbane Group's new report presents the most comprehensive publicly available research on the ERM market ever undertaken. 

&lt;em&gt;ERM: Business Imperatives and Implementation Readiness&lt;/em&gt; is backed by qualitative and quantitative research on general awareness of ERM, the current state of ERM deployments or plans to deploy (or decisions to avoid the technology), and target applications. According to study data:

&lt;ul&gt;
	&lt;li&gt;Protecting confidential information from leaking outside the organization is the primary motivation driving ERM adoption.&lt;/li&gt;
	&lt;li&gt;ERM is becoming important for supporting information usage regulations such as Sarbanes-Oxley (accounting) and HIPAA (healthcare). &lt;/li&gt;
	&lt;li&gt;Apart from regulatory compliance, client/customer communications and financial processes are other types of business processes involving confidential information that are the most prevalent for ERM implementations.&lt;/li&gt;
	&lt;li&gt;55% of ERM implementations are integrated with content management solutions (including knowledge management and groupware/collaboration). &lt;/li&gt;
&lt;/ul&gt;

"The study reports increasing awareness of the significant risks associated with information leakage and the business processes that are most vulnerable.
