Traction Offers Integrated FAST InStream Search Technology

Traction Software announced the general availability of its Traction TeamPage FAST Search Module. The Module is an integrated option, based on Fast Search & Transfer's FAST InStream OEM search technology solution. The Module is priced at USD $15K per Traction TeamPage Server. By embedding FAST InStream, TeamPage: Extends the TeamPage standard search capability by adding permission-filtered search across over 370 formats of documents attached to Traction TeamPage blog posts or stored in TeamPage web folders; Adds linguistic analysis to automatically extract and rank relevant key words and entities. Entities include company names, person names, locations, and e-mail addresses; Provides interactive drill-down navigation, including AND and OR selection, enabling users to quickly understand their search set and narrow ten's or hundred's of thousands of results down to just a few that are highly relevant using keywords, entities, and metadata attributes; Adds a "Find Similar" choice to posts, comments and search results to make it simple to find other relevant content; Adds automatically calculated Rank order to Newest First and Oldest First sort options. Canto Announces BrandAssistant DAM for QuarkXPress

Canto Software announced the immediate availability of BrandAssistant, offering professional digital asset management from within QuarkXPress 7. Designed for Brand Managers, who need absolute control over the assets they manage, BrandAssistant is meant to reduce production and approval delays, decrease time to market and increase asset security and distribution control. In addition to finding cataloged files and composition zones (and using drag & drop to place them in layouts), BrandAssistant enables layout artists to catalog new layouts, autocatalog assets used in those layouts, and even mark files ready for review, without leaving the QuarkXPress environment. The complete text used in layouts can be cataloged as searchable metadata, making it easier to find files based on their content. The asset-relations tracking technology first introduced with Cumulus 7 is included, enabling users to find assets based on their relationships with other assets: contains/is contained in, references/is referenced by, and more. PDF variants of layouts can be created automatically by BrandAssistant, making the review process easy for those without access to QuarkXPress. BrandAssistant is based upon a full version of Cumulus 7 Workgroup, offering complete, version-controlled digital asset management, even for projects outside the QuarkXPress workflow. All file formats are supported, and Cumulus offers enhanced metadata support for the most popular file formats, including PDF, Microsoft Office, Photoshop, Illustrator, TIF and many more. IBM and Yahoo! Unveil Free Enterprise Search Software

IBM (NYSE: IBM) and Yahoo! Inc. (NASDAQ: YHOO) introduced new, free enterprise search software with Web search services powered by Yahoo! that enables departments and businesses of all sizes to find, access and capitalize on information stored within organizations and across the Web. IBM OmniFind Yahoo! Edition is a no-cost, entry level enterprise search product developed to help eliminate financial and technology barriers to intranet and Web search. The new offering from IBM with Web search services powered by Yahoo! can be downloaded for free and is simple to install and use with existing hardware. The offering supports up to 500,000 documents per server, more than 200 file types and documents in more than 30 languages. It features a three-click installation process and takes customers only minutes to go from download to live search and information access. IBM OmniFind Yahoo! Edition also uses the open source Lucene indexing library to provide cross-platform full text indexing. IBM OmniFind Yahoo! Edition offers automatic spell correction, support for synonyms and shortcuts, wildcard support to substitute for unknown characters, query reporting, and graphical user interface customization. In addition, it is fully integrated with Yahoo! Search, providing one-click access to send queries to Yahoo! web, image, video, audio, directory, local and news search services. The new software complements IBM's existing OmniFind search and content discovery software. Liferay Unveils Liferay Portal 4.2

Liferay announced the release of Liferay Portal 4.2. The latest version offers added back-end enhancements to workflow and content management via integration with ServiceMix JBI, jBPM workflow engine, and Alfresco, as well as new features such as chat and other user-interface enhancements to improve end-user experience and collaboration. New upgrades in Version 4.2 include integration with the ServiceMix JBI (Java Business Integration) engine, which acts as a single point of connection for disparate enterprise applications. ServiceMix simplifies the integration, upgrade and substitution of siloed applications such as CRM, ERP, and ECM, reducing development time and lowering maintenance costs. Other new features of Liferay Portal 4.2 include: jBPM workflow engine allows developers to quickly change application workflow to reflect evolving business processes; Liferay Chat a secure, portal-based instant messaging solution with an intuitive AJAX/Web 2.0 interface; Alfresco integration allows users to manage enterprise content directly through the Liferay Portal environment; A new parallel portlet rendering engine reduces end-user wait time by allowing portlets to load independently. Intalio to Release Entire BPMS under Open Source License

Intalio, Inc. announced that Intalio|BPMS Community Edition will be released under the Mozilla Public License (MPL) amended with the Generic Attribution Provision submitted to the Open Source Initiative (OSI) earlier this year.Intalio|BPMS Community Edition includes an Eclipse-based business process design tool that supports the Business Process Modeling Notation (BPMN). It also generates executable processes using the Business Process Execution Language (BPEL), a BPEL execution engine that can be deployed on top of any J2EE application server, and a workflow framework that supports the BPEL4People model developed by IBM (NYSE: IBM) and SAP (NYSE: SAP). Users of the Open Source Intalio|BPMS Community Edition can later on upgrade to Intalio|BPMS Enterprise Edition through a yearly subscription plan. Using a model similar to the one pioneered by other commercial open source companies such as JBoss, SugarCRM and Zimbra, customers of Intalio|BPMS Enterprise Edition get access to professional support, patch updates, advanced enterprise features, and a comprehensive Open Source indemnification program. While Intalio|BPMS Community Edition will be developed through Intalio's own Open Source community, Intalio will continue to increase its participation to the STP BPMN project hosted by the Eclipse Foundation, and the ODE BPEL project hosted by the Apache Software Foundation. The code produced by both projects and originally donated by Intalio will be integrated back into Intalio|BPMS Community Edition on a regular basis. Adobe Delivers Acrobat Connect Product Line & Reader 8.0

Adobe Systems Incorporated (Nasdaq:ADBE) announced the immediate availability of the Adobe Acrobat Connect software product line for communicating and collaborating instantly through real-time, interactive web conferencing. The Acrobat Connect product line addresses online collaboration needs from casual to intensive web conferencing users. The entry-level Acrobat Connect hosted service provides users with essential collaboration tools, such as screen sharing, whiteboarding, chat, video conferencing, and audio conferencingall for unlimited usage for up to 15 participants for one low monthly fee. Additionally, with one-button "Start Meeting" access from Acrobat 8 and Adobe Reader 8 software, users can launch Acrobat Connect directly from a document to start collaborating immediately. The entire Acrobat family consists of Acrobat 8 Professional, Acrobat 8 Standard, Acrobat 8 Elements, Acrobat 3D Version 8, Acrobat Connect, and Acrobat Connect Professional. The Acrobat Connect hosted service is currently available as a free trial version through the end of the current calendar year. The commercial release of Acrobat Connect, initially available in English, is expected to be available in January 2007 for a subscription price of US$39 per month, or US$395 per year per personal meeting room. W3C Updates XML Formatting Standard to Incorporate Popular Extensions

W3C has revised the widely deployed XML formatting standard XSL-FO 1.0 (now 1.1)to support the creation of back-of-the-book style indexes, revision bars, PDF bookmarks, conditional text "markers" in tables (for example to support partial sums of financial data), access to the number of the last page of a group, and multiple flows on a page, and to include other popular features. The new XSL-FO 1.1 Recommendation increases interoperability by standardizing these features and other enhancements, formerly only available as proprietary extensions. In addition to adding these features to XSL-FO 1.1, the XSL Working Group enhanced a number of XSL-FO 1.0 features, providing for multiple color profile references, more complex page numbering schemes, and clarifications for internationalization. These changes, and the incorporation of corrected errata, represent the incremental evolution of the XSL-FO 1.0 specification. The Working Group has made these changes with careful attention both to backwards compatibility and to interoperability between existing implementations. At the W3C International Workshop on the future of the Extensible Stylesheet Language (XSL-FO) Version 2.0 in October 2006, nearly 40 participants agreed that work should begin on XSL-FO 2.0. W3C expects this work to begin in earnest in January 2007. Microsoft Introduces Expression Studio, Enhances Family of Professional Design Tools

Microsoft Corp. (NASDAQ:MSFT) announced significant product line enhancements along with pricing and availability of the Microsoft Expression Studio for creative professionals. Expression Studio, a component of Microsoft's strategy for improving the user experience delivered by applications, provides designers with a tools platform that boosts collaboration with developers in the delivery of user experiences for the Web and Vista applications. Expression Studio comprises Expression Web for creating standards-based Web sites; Expression Blend (formally Interactive Designer) for designing rich interactive experiences for Windows; Expression Design (formally Graphic Designer) for the design of visual elements for Web and Windows experiences; and a new tool, Expression Media, which provides digital asset management and unifies team workflow across the suite. Expression Web is shipping today, and the full Expression Studio is planned for delivery in the second quarter of 2007. Expression Media, based on the iView MediaPro product acquired by Microsoft earlier this year, supports more than 100 media formats and provides offline access to visual catalogs. Expression Media includes Expression Media Encoder, a solution for the preparation, encoding and deployment of rich video and audio for Web and Windows experiences. A first CTP of Expression Media is expected early in 2007. Also made available is the first CTP of Windows Presentation Foundation Everywhere (WPF/E). WPF/E is a cross-platform browser plug-in for delivering rich media, animation and video content based on Windows Media technology. Expression Web is available for an estimated retail price (ERP) of $299 (U.S.), and qualifying users of FrontPage can upgrade to Expression Web for $99 ERP. Bitrix Inc. announces the release of new Bitrix Site Manager 5.1 - web content management system. The new version has been globally tested and optimized. There is a new AJAX-enabled user interface, and a new module to create blogs, training courses, examination tests, and manage affiliate networks. The e-Store now features a flexible system of discounts and coupons. Version 5.1 offers a new tabbed Control Panel with the three modes: "Public section" to view the site as-is; "Edit site" in which system control areas are highlighted and powered with management tools; and the common "Control Panel." The new interface provides for fast switching between the three modes. For convenience, the tab bar can be pinned on top of the browser window. All product editions now can import and export data from/to information blocks in the CSV format (e.g. for communication with MS Excel). The Small Business edition now contains the Forum and Newsletter modules. The Professional and Enterprise editions now include the Blogs and e-Learning modules. Additionally, the Enterprise edition is empowered with the AD/LDAP module.
