Fast Search & Transfer (FAST) announced an OEM partnership with AskMe under which FAST will serve as the search foundation for AskMe Enterprise, a solution for creating and managing Employee Knowledge Networks (EKN). AskMe Enterprise will be integrated with FAST InStream, an OEM-specific enterprise search solution developed to meet the complex application-based search requirements of independent software vendors (ISVs). AskMe connects employees with the most relevant internal expertise to solve problems, share ideas, and collaborate. Fast Search & Transfer (FAST) and IntelliReach Corporation announced an OEM partnership to enhance the search capabilities of IntelliReach's messaging management system. IntelliReach's solution will be integrated with FAST InStream, an OEM-specific enterprise search solution developed specifically to meet the complex application-based search requirements of independent software vendors (ISVs). Interwoven Announces Content Transformation Services for TeamSite

Interwoven, Inc. (Nasdaq: IWOV) announced the availability of Interwoven Content Transformation Services for TeamSite, a new add-on module to the company's Web Content Management (WCM) offering, enabling multi-channel publishing of business documents to multiple output formats including the Web, print, and wireless in a cross-platform environment including Windows, Linux, and Solaris. Business professionals can publish common business documents created in Microsoft Word, Excel, or PowerPoint as PDF or HTML files to multiple channels across the enterprise without the need to leave the application they're working in, change business processes, or seek IT assistance. Built on Oracle Database 10g and Oracle Application Server 10g, Oracle Collaboration Suite 10g supports seamless management of all structured and unstructured enterprise information on a single architecture. Oracle Collaboration Suite 10g Content Services offers enhanced content management functionality for all users throughout the enterprise. Oracle Collaboration Suite 10g Content Services is a platform priced and designed for enterprise-wide records management, business process automation and integrated file and document management. Formerly known as Oracle Files, Oracle Collaboration Suite 10g Content Services offers enhanced file management and sharing capabilities and adds new document lifecycle and records management functionalities and business process automation capabilities. BEA to Acquire Plumtree Software

BEA Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ: BEAS) and Plumtree Software, Inc. (NASDAQ:PLUM) announced that the companies have entered into a definitive agreement under which BEA will acquire Plumtree for approximately USD$200 million in cash. Plumtree Software provides enterprise portal solutions to connect disparate work groups, IT systems and business processes. Its portfolio runs on both J2EE and .Net. By combining the Plumtree and BEA portal portfolios, BEA will be able to better provide customers with improved enterprise productivity by offering both collaborative and transactional portals across multiple platforms and application servers. Under terms of the agreement, BEA will pay USD$5.50 per share, in cash, plus the assumption of outstanding Plumtree options, for a total transaction value of approximately USD$200 million. The acquisition is subject to regulatory approval, Plumtree shareholder approval and other customary closing conditions. The transaction is expected to close in the fall of calendar year 2005. Upon close of the transaction, Plumtree will become a part of a new BEA product unit. BEA Chief Technology Officer and Executive Vice President, Mark Carges, and Plumtree Software Chief Executive Officer, John Kunze, will lead the transition. CM Professionals Launches Chapters Program

Content Management Professionals (CM Pros), the international content management community of practice announced its new member-driven committee process including a framework for the formation of regional chapters. The CM Pros committee process which enables members to formally organize in groups based on geographic location or common interest in a particular topic empowers any group of at least three members to form a committee by issuing a call for participation to the entire membership. Within thirty days, the group hosts its first official meeting at which attendees elect a steering committee populated by at least three members of the group, one of whom serves as chair. The steering committee oversees the creation and progress of subcommittees and strives to advance the mission of the committee. Interwoven Acquires Scrittura

Interwoven, Inc. (NASDAQ:IWOV) announced that it has acquired Scrittura, a provider of document automation technology and straight-through-processing for the complex non-exchange based trading operations of financial services institutions. The acquisition maps to Interwoven's strategy to deliver targeted ECM solutions, and positions Interwoven as an ECM provider in the market for trading of non-exchange based financial instruments. As a result of the acquisition, Interwoven now offers a complete solution for the automation of Over-the-Counter (OTC) Derivatives trading. Under the terms of the agreement, Scrittura shareholders will receive initial cash consideration of approximately $16.3 million and up to $2.0 million of additional cash consideration if certain revenue and operating contribution goals are achieved by December 31, 2005. Under terms of the agreement, the firms will work together to deliver a set of eSupport solutions that will enable manufacturing and technology organizations to tap existing enterprise content to automatically develop support knowledge that can be used online and within the contact center to improve the support resolution process. ZyLAB and Ingeniux announced a strategic partnership. The combination of ZyLAB and Ingeniux technologies will provide customers with an XML based solution for managing the content lifecycle. The Ingeniux Content Management System (CMS) provides a Web content management and publishing system for developing, managing and deploying content throughout the enterprise. IBM to Open Source Technology for Analysis of Unstructured Information

IBM announced plans to make available through open source its Unstructured Information Management Architecture (UIMA), a technology designed to support software applications that can process text within documents and other content sources to understand the latent meaning, relationship and relevant facts buried within. UIMA provides an open software framework with standard interfaces for adding unstructured information analytics to any application. This framework makes it easy to integrate the analytic software tools and end-to-end enterprise applications across several different vendors. UIMA also provides tools to speed the creation of new, reusable analytic software components to handle unstructured information. The result of more than 4 years of development by IBM Research, UIMA has also received significant support from the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA). DARPA and IBM formed a working group consisting of experienced research members who have contributed their expertise in unstructured information management to the evolution of UIMA. The contributors included several universities, along with industrial research and development organizations. Some of the universities that participated, such as Carnegie Mellon University, Columbia University, Stanford University and The University of Massachusetts Amherst, are already using UIMA in courses and research projects. The other organizations actively supporting and using UIMA include Science Applications International Corp., BBN Technologies, The Mayo Clinic and MITRE Corporation. In addition, commercial adoption of UIMA was announced among more than 15 software vendors. The UIMA framework has already been embedded in IBM products, including IBM WebSphere Information Integrator OmniFind Edition, the first commercially available software platform for processing content based on UIMA. IBM WebSphere Portal Server and Lotus Work Place also leverage UIMA for content processing. Solimar Systems Announces SOLsearcher Enterprise v2.18

Justsystem Announces U.S. Office Opening

Justsystem Corporation (JASDAQ: 4686) announced the opening of its first U.S. office in Palo Alto, Calif. The new office opens following the release of the Beta version of xfy (pronounced x-fi). Justsystem is the largest Japanese software development company and maker of the most popular Japanese-language word processor. The xfy product, which is the catalyst for opening the U.S. office, is a software architecture that allows any XML document containing diverse XML vocabularies to be rendered, authored and edited as a single data set. CM Professionals Announces Fall 2005 Events

Syntext Updates Serna XML Editor

Syntext, Inc. announced version 2.3 of its Serna WYSIWYG XML Editor. Serna is a WYSIWYG XML editor incorporating on-the-fly XSL-driven technology that allows users to work with XML documents "close to their print appearance." Enterprise technical author groups can simplify and accelerate their collaborative work on the XML documents with the new Serna functionality for XInclude support, WebDAV support and redlining. With Serna's XInclude support, authors can re-use and assemble content from several documents. The included XML documents are edited "in-place," as if they are parts of the main document. Authors can include only a part of a document without breaking it into fragments. The redlining functionality allows authors to annotate XML documents, and find, accept or reject changes made by others. Serna's redlining is transparent to document schema and does not affect other tools and publishing systems. The key features of Syntext Serna include: out-of-the-box support of DocBook, DITA, TEI, XHTML, NITF; on-the-fly XSL rendering and XML Schema document validation, support for XML catalogs, redlining, XInclude, WebDAV, CALS table support, multilingual spell checking, C++ and scripting (Python) plugin APIs, and availability for Microsoft Windows (2000, XP), Mac OS X and Linux. Oracle Buys Context Media
