We are going to have fun with the keynotes this year with our new rapid-fire format. You won't want to miss any of it so be sure to get their early enough for a good seat. Also, please remember that after seven years at the Westin at Copley Place we have moved to a roomier spot at the Westin Waterfront at 425 Summer Street. You could easily lose 45 minutes by showing up at the wrong hotel!

K1. Opening Keynotes: Big Ideas - Bold Statements
Wednesday, November 30, 8:30 - 10:00 & 11:00 - 12:00

Our keynotes are designed to inspire, provoke, and provide perspective on the big issues, trends, and shifting foundation of technologies, digital strategies, and channels for communication and engagement. Our keynote sessions this year will use a rapid-fire format. Each speaker will focus on describing a single big idea or making a bold statement that will help us think a little differently about our use or expectations of content and content technologies. Presentations are limited to 10-15 minutes with 5 minutes for Q&A. Use of slides will be minimal.

Congratulations to recently elected officers, and to new CM Pros board members Saravanan Rajan, Brett Zucker and Ian Truscott!

Content Management is often loosely defined but covers a virtual ecosystem of vendors and practitioners. The 2010 CM Pros board extends a call to the community of practitioners to further define product niches and areas of specialist expertise. The goal is to guide the market and the people that look to CM Pros.

Board-appointed officers for the coming year are:

  • Scott Liewehr, President (Senior WCM Consultant at Gilbane Group and Principal at onesta)
  • Saravanan Rajan, Vice President (Chief Technology Officer for CoSI Consulting)
  • Ayse Kok, Secretary (PhD Student, ICT Consultant, and Researcher)
  • Brett Zucker, Treasurer (Executive Vice President and Chief Technical Officer at Bridgeline Software)
  • Ian Truscott, Director (Product Strategist, Alterian)

Look for action from this board as they gear up for a full season of activities that will engage the Content Management community. Be sure to join CM Pros at their Spring Summit at The Gilbane Conference (http://gilbanesf.com), May 18 in San Francisco.

Nominations for the CM Pros Board of Directors close in one week. The deadline to submit nominations is January 6, 2010. More information about the Election Timeline is available on the website.

To nominate yourself or someone else who you believe would make a great candidate, please see How to Nominate on the CM Pros website and email the Elections Oversight Committee at elections@cmprofessionals.org by Wednesday, January 6, 2010.

The board is seeking enthusiastic candidates to run for three seats, bringing the board to five members. To qualify as a candidate, you must be a member "in good standing" of CM Pros. This is an opportunity for anyone who is passionate about content management in its many forms to contribute to the continued growth of the organization.

The CM Pros Board of Directors is both strategic and tactical. Each position may require a time commitment of up to 5–10 hours per week, including attendance at a weekly conference call meeting.

In the words of one past board member:
"Serving on the board was a great experience for me. I had the opportunity to work closely with leaders in the content management field and build lasting relationships. Plus being treasurer helped me develop finance skills that I later used to start my own company." Seth Gottlieb, Founder of Content Here, CM Pros Board of Directors 2006

We've been providing regular updates on Gilbane Boston over on our dedicated announcements and press release blog, as well as on Twitter, but since not everybody subscribes to either of those, here is a quick summary for both conference attendees and technology exhibit visitors, with links.

Open to all:

Conference options:

Follow the conference Twitter stream. The main hashtag is #gilbaneboston, but others will emerge from the attendees as #futurewcm has. You can join (dm @gilbaneboston) or follow the list of twitterers at Gilbane Boston.

There is also a list of Google "Wavers" at the conference to follow.

Hope to see you there.

On May 19, I will be giving a keynote address on the Web Content Management market landscape at the CMS2009 Conference in Nijmegen, Holland (http://www.cmscongres.nl/).  In the presentation, I will discuss recent trends in client demands for WCM products as well as strategic directions that vendors will take over the next year.  On May 20, I will also lead an interactive two-hour workshop on estimating the total cost of ownership of WCM products over a five-year period (see "Workshop Tony White" in the sidebar of http://www.cmscongres.nl/).  And for you English speakers, don't worry about the language.  Even though the CMS2009 website is in Dutch, the presentations will be in English.

The period for nominating a peer or yourself to run for one of the open seats on the Board of Directors of CM Pros closes tomorrow, January 7. Visit the elections page on the CM Pros website for details.

CM Pros (the Content Management Professionals Association) has replaced their listserv with a new forum and even non-members will be able to view much of the content - members can contribute.

They also announced that the early registration discounts for the Summit ends November 4th, as it does for our conference.

They also announced nominations for CM Pros Board of Directors:

CM Pros seeks enthusiastic candidates to run for three open seats on the Board of Directors. To qualify as a candidate, you must be a CM Pros member in good standing. Nominations open soon and voting is scheduled for December. Consider nominating yourself or someone else you believe would make a great candidate. If you are passionate about content management this is your opportunity to contribute to and gain from the continued growth of the profession and the organization.

The Content Management Professionals Association (CM Pros) will once again be holding their annual Fall Summit in conjunction with Gilbane Boston in December. There are details over on our Events blog which I won't duplicate here, or even better, go right to the source at http://summit.cmprofessionals.org/. If you are a member we hope to see you, and if you are not you can find out about joining on the CM Pros site at http://cmprofessionals.org/

Congratulations to the new board at CM Pros!
The results were announced last night. The new directors are:

  • Joerg Dennis Krueger, Managing Director and vendor-independent consultant and analyst with Cara Europe Ltd in Germany, is committed to expanding the CM Pros community in Europe.

  • Tony Pietrocola, President and Co-founder of Tenth Floor Interactive has more than 10 years in the content management industry and will work to market and expand the recognition of CM Pros.

  • Paul Trotter, Founder and CEO, Author-it, New Zealand has worked with content management for the past 12 years and plans to use his practical "make it work" experience to champion CM Pros member benefits.

  • Andrew Wilcox, president and founder of Everage Consulting, Canada, has served as Technology Manager for CM Pros and plans to follow through with the technology initiative currently in process.

  • Barry Schaeffer, president of X.Systems.Inc, focuses on handling the organizational impacts of information technology changes and is dedicated to developing a body of CM Pros knowledge.

The four new Directors replace two outgoing board members, Mary Laplante and Emma Hamer, whose terms expire this month. Directors Linda Burman and Travis Wissnik remain on the Board until January 2009. Barry Schaeffer joined the board in late 2007, filling the remainder of resigning Director Joan Lasselle's term.
It's great to see the association continue to grow, and to have generated enough board nominees for a competitve election.

By the way, I believe the Executive Director position is still open.

As we reported last month, CM Pros is looking for a new Executive Director. There is now a full job description available on the CM Pros site.
